I may be old (72yrs), I may be grey, I may be Irish, I may just be thick, but can somebody tell me - What does lol mean???
-
Lots Of Laughs

You're not daft. It took me ages to work it out - until I asked a 16 year old!
On other words - "Isn't it funny?!"

"I may be old (72yrs), I may be grey, I may be Irish, I may just be thick"
72 is not old - age is in the mind, not the body
grey - you should stop buying that colour hair dye (this is from someone who was born alot later than you who also buys it)
Irish - I would be proud of being Irish
thick - join the club
LOL

I like this meaning
Laugh Out Loud
-
I prefer - LOADS OF LOVE -
It's how I always sign off !!!

We could start a whole thread asking what some of these things mean. My son's friends speak in "text" sometimes and I haven't a clue. (And I'm a mere 41)

I think officially (if there is an official meaning) it's supposed to be Laughing Out Loud, to let the person you are writing to know that you are laughing - snce they can't see or hear you.
I agree - it took me a while to figure some of these out - not always obvious.
But you can have fun and come up with your own ideas until you find the answers LOL :)

When I first joined rootschat someone posted a list with 20/30 meanings on it, can I find it now, can I heck as like
-
I agree with Tony. Let's start making our own up and see if people can figure them out. (And see if we remember what we meant the next day -- or after a glass of...) ;D

Not 'passed' it, but definitely 'PAST' it!!!

I'll never get the hang of this 'ere lingo :P ;D

Really common ones you might see are:
BRB - Be Right Back - usually in chat rooms when someone leaves the keyboard for a few mins
IMHO - In My Humble Opinion
TTFN - Ta Ta For Now (originated with Tigger from Winnie The Pooh I believe)
ROTF - Rolling On The Floor
ROTFLMAO - Rolling On The Floor Laughing My A$$ Off
And then people will abbreviate words as well...
Like "Nice 2CU"
But get a bit beyond that and I'm lost too...

Thanks Tony!
Someone said LMAO to me the other day and I was totally stumped! Thought I knew most of these things, but apparently no! ??? ::)

My thanks to everyone who responded to my post. I now intend to spend the next day or two simply "lolling about"!!!
It's great being "cool" and "with it". !!
Having spent my N.S.in ciphers I really should be "au fait" with acronyms and I promise I will do better!!
