Post by: SAPPER on Friday 24 December 04 00:15 GMT (UK)
Hello List.  I am researching the following Channel Island names.

Le Brocq. Pirouet. Le Maistre. Barbier. Le Brun. Vautier. Tourgis. Godel. Jeanne.  I would be happy to swap information.

Hello Scatty.  Merry Christmas and a happy new year to you and your family.  I have been researching my Channel Island ancestor's for 4 years and this is my personal brick wall.  My G/G/Grandfather was Jacques Le Brocq b10/03/1811 St Ouen m Elizabeth Pirouet St Helier 15/10/1836.  Elizabeth died 06/11/1847 they had 9 children.

From this point I can't find Jacques anywhere, He is not on any of the census, But some of the children are on the 1851 census living in St Helier with relatives.  My guess would be that Jacques has died?

If you can help in any way this would be appreciated.

Regards

Sapper.

If you look here:

http://members.shaw.ca/Jerseymaid/ouens.html

you will find a Jacques and Elizabeth LeBrocq with two young children, in the 1841 census -- them?

Found by using the technique I just posted in my "hint" message: put

 site:members.shaw.ca jerseymaid jacques "le brocq"

into Google's search box, and Bob's your uncle!

Sapper -

From the baptism information for Jacques I have his details as transcribed -

10.3.1811  Le Brocq Jacques fs Phle fs Jean fs Phle et Jeanne Le Maistre
(i.e Jacques is the son of Philippe, who is son of Jean who is the son of Philippe, and Jeanne Le Maistre)
There are loads of other Le Brocq's from St Ouen - and there are still many there today!

However, these same parents also appear to have the following children baptised in St Ouen:

Phle [Philippe] bapt. 15.08.1802
Ann bapt. 1.12.1805
Frcs [Francis] bapt. 4.1.1807
Anne bapt. 27.05.1809
Maria  bapt. 14.02.1813
Jeanne  bapt 11.03.1815
Rachel  bapt. 16.03.1817
Wm [William] bapt. 21.02.1819
Eliz [abeth] bapt. 5.08.1821

I trust you already have the 1841 census.

I have also found a Jacques Le Brocq in 1851, St Ouen, - but aged 68 years, so too old.

I looked for a burial for Jacques up to 1842 in St Ouen, and in St Helier deaths index 1842 - 1851 but no success.

Hi Sapper,

Not sure if you have solved this puzzle already, given your post dates back some time, but:

Jacques Le Brocq appears to have re-married - Sarah Meers Crews in 1849.

Their first two children together appear to have been born in Jersey c 1851-53 and then they moved to Cornwall, UK - my g-g-grandmother (3rd child) being born there in 1856.

Kind regards,

Longtails

Hello Longtails.  Would your g/g/grandmother be Johanna Crews???
If she is we could be related.
