Just thought the clue may be on the next page as the household continues
it may help
what is that weird note part way down next to the 2 year old and then another word that looks like 'and' or 'Ind' next to the 58 year old

All help appreciated

Looks like all 3 entries may have been added later (by one of the statisticians?) Second one, not that it makes sense, “Son out”? Third one “Ind” as in Independent?

I think the second one could be ind for "indoor"?  :)

(and I agree both seem to have been added later)

Thanks all
I wonder if it's a combination of your suggestions

'son and ind farm labourer'
ind meaning indoors
or it could be ind for independent ?
How confusing

thanks for all the comments

Message for Lynbee
Sorry the mists have just cleared !
yes unpaid make sense - unpaid housework

as for my last post - it can't be 'son and ind ...' as he has a different surname from the head of the household'

the bit that looks like 'son and'  maybe is a statistician's note as Spiderboy suggested

The Ind will mean indoor. It will mean that although working on the farm he worked indoors - chrning butter/milking cows/making cheese etc.

The indoor farm jobs were a step up from Ag Labs

'Unpaid Housework' looks like the lady cleaned house for the Farmers wife and didn't get paid for it.

am I right in presuming that the Unpaid Houseworker was the wife of the Son-in-law ?

Yes
I think so too
Sounds like she had to work her way up through the pecking order
