1851 Sarah with other grandparents:
1851 HO107/1936 fol.481 p.45
Mendip View House, Weston S M
George MAIN head m 50 Potter East Brent, Som
Sarah " wife m 57 Mark? Som
Henery " son 14 Bridgwater
Sarah PARR grand dau 7 Living at home Milton Som
Marriage for Robert PARR to Mary Ann MAIN - June Qu 1842 Axbridge 10/513
- this could be his 1st marriage and the above are obviously her parents. That might explain why the later Mary was born Wales and why Amelia appeared in 1871 but not 1861 perhaps, and she was born around same time as Eliza, could be her mother married twice too! Will sort it eventually! Definitely Aberdare on one census and Abergavenny on the other.
I don't think the other Robert I found can be Robert's father, he's only 46 in 1851 and your Robert is 30, perhaps another family member
Going for a cuppa myself, more later

so much to take in- your brain is working far better than mine fot this time of night barbara :o as far as i can work it out it looks like charlottes mother could- or is the mary in the 1861 census then ... its never straight forward is it lol
-
No you need to put the census in order and not as I've given you them here, make a list of the children and their birthdates, see which census they're missing from - I think I still need to find Mary and Amelia in other census. Amelia Parr is not a common name, and the only one I found was with other parents....? Also the older Robert Parr wasn't a potter, he was an iron moulder so I won't bother with him for now, I must have seen grandfather George Main was a potter and mixed them up -it is late, off to bed soon!
-
Yes ok then barbara :) i shall re- arrange them all tomorrow... like you say its really late lol and a hughe thanks again for all this help your giving me!!! your a star :)
-
1841 Unfortunately Robert not with his parents so don't know who they are yet. If you got one of his marriage certs (!) it would tell you his father's name & occupation
1841 HO107/968/8 fol.5 p.3
Wilcox Bldgs, Weston super Mare
Charles Phillips 25 Potter (the chap Charlotte was servant to in 1871?)
Jane " 27
Mary " 6 months
Richard Vincent 24 Husbandry
Mary Ann " 25
Robert PAR 20 Potter
William Hillier 15 Potter
John Loyde 23 Tile Maker
George Crees 21 Brickmaker
Martha Wookey 17 Tayloress
Something to make you think - In 1861 here's Grandad George with the Sarah and Mary who are already listed in 1861 with parents, maybe they spent time at both houses so much they were listed twice! Well the two houses are only 5 doors apart, and there were 6 other children :-\
1861 RG9/1673 fol.68 p.9
6 Pottery Cottages, Weston
George Main head m 60 Brick Maker East Brent Somerset
Sarah " wife m 67 Mark "
Sarah Parr grand.dau 18 Laundress Weston super Mare
Mary Parr grand.dau 16 Milliner Uphill, Som
Off to bed, will look for Amelia tomorrow (today) maybe that will say something about a previous wife (or husband)

Morning Julie,
Here's George Main in 1841, was hoping to find his daughter Mary Ann before she married Robert Parr, but looks as if she'd already left home, will have a look for her elsewhere. By the way, 1841 census has adult ages rounded down to the nearest 5 yrs
1841 HO107/971/4 fol.13 p.19
Ropers Lane, Bridgwater, Somerset
George MAIN 35 Brick maker
Sarah " 40
Margaret " 15
Sarah " 10
Henry " 5
all born in county
There's a death on freebmd for a Mary Ann Parr in Axbridge 1858, if that's her, Robert may have married the Welsh Mary between then and 1861??
There's a marriage for Robert PARR in June Qu 1859 Axbridge 5c 1063 with a Mary Price on same page, she could be Welsh with a surname like Price...
will check other census for her
Barbara
-
BINGO!
1851 census HO107/1936 fol.490 p.7/8
Wadham Street, Weston Super Mare
William PRICE head m 32 Plasterer Hereford, Clifford
Mary " wife m 33 " wife Mon. Abergavenny
Amelia A. " dau 11 mo Infant Bristol
also there were visitors William & Caroline Passmore with 2 children
Deaths for two William Prices in Axbridge 1957
so Amelia 1871 census was listed as Amelia Parr after her mother married Robert, now to find her in 1861
-
Good morning Barbara..... by jo- you have been busy :o.just had a liitle read- will go back to it with a coffee i think.. lol looks like its comming together nicely!!! be back soon!!!!!!!!!!!
-
No, leaving it now!! Can't find Amelia in 1861 unless she's the niece aged 11 with uncle Dan Jones in Liverpool and I'm not ploughing through Jones and Price names.
Best thing would be to invest in a certificate or two, particularly Robert's marriage certs to see what the maiden names and marital status of the brides were.
Sent the message through ancestry, hopefully they'll contact you and might have all the answers :D
Kind regards,
Barbara
-
Thank you Barbara for all your help!- I have more info than Icould have wished for at this time thanks to you!!!!....so I will send off for those certificates and go from there :)

Hi Julie,
Maybe if you order from North Somerset reg. office it may be quicker than from the GRO and you could ask them to check parents etc first before paying for the certs
