Hello Dean
the Bulkington PR's are here:
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~hughwallis/IGIBatchNumbers/CountyWarwick_(A-M).htm#B
but there aren't any Dewis' there pre 1800 but there are several in next door Bedworth where there is a William Dewis b.1778 to William Dewis & Grace Proctor(m.11/2/1774 Bedworth) which is about right time frame for his marriage in 1809.
These are the siblings:
Sarah/1774
Hannah/1776
Thomas/1779
Richard/1781
Elizabeth/1783
Mary/1786
Dorothy/1788
John/1794
As you have a positive date for William's marriage you can email War.CRO
http://www.warwickshire.gov.uk/countyrecordoffice & ask them for the details Parish, witnesses etc.to see if any of his siblings are witnesses.

Went into the Library but they havn't got the Bulkington registers. I was also going to suggest the Bedworth link, it is only a mile up the road from Bulkington and a Dewis stronghold

Hello Dean
It's a pity that there are no siblings as witnesses but all is not lost. The next step would be to see if William was a witness at any of the others marriages, also wills for the parents & monumental inscriptions may give some info. but all this has to be done at the War.CRO. where the records are kept. Also does William have any of the above names for his own children.
As the info. for this period is sparse you are unlikely to find cast iron proof of a connection but there doesn't appear to be another William Dewis born at this time.
Regards Jim

These appear to be the children of William & Eliz.
William/1811
George/1812
Hannah/1814
Richard/1816
Frances/1817
Sarah/1819
Ann/1821
There are 4 family names there.

Presumably from previous replies, the marriage record tells you nothing.

Your only option is to get the baptism film and have a look through until you find William's birth.  Just because there is no record on the IGI it doesn't mean that it's not on the film.  I've found lots of information which the LDS haven't transcribed.  Bulkington films are at Bedworth library, Coventry family history centre, Warwick records office and Lichfield records office, or you could order a film from the LDS to view at your nearest LDS centre.  But no, they are not online, very little is for the dates you are looking at.

Finding the birth may not give you very much more information - it's likely to just say William son of (say) William and Mary.  However Bulkington records do go back to 1660 so it would be well worth spending a decent amount of time looking at the film and recording all instances of the names you are looking for and then see what sort of pattern you can build.  Information is limited at this time so there is never any guarantee that you have the right people and it's the sort of research you really have to do for yourself as it would be unfair to ask someone to look it all up for you unless you paid a professional researcher.

Also think about checking the records for nearby churches.  I have found Bulkington people using Shilton, Ansty, Wolvey, Bedworth, Nuneaton, Chilvers Coton, Foleshill, and Walsgrave on Sowe.

You could also look at other sources such as apprenticeship, poor law and newspaper records to see if you can spot him.  These often give clues to parents.  The poor law index is available at http://www.midlandshistoricaldata.org (pay per view)and there are Dewis's listed although I haven't checked the dates.

Hope your search is fruitful.

Kate

Had a few minutes to spare in the Library so thought I would nose in the Beduth records as most of the Dewis's in the area came from there! I looked between 1770 and 1776/7 but did not come across a William being baptised but I believe there was one earlier in the 1760s as I was flicking through and there is also the one found by Jim.
Couples by the name of Dewis in those few years that I covered were William and Ann, Edward and Sarah, William and Grace, John and Mary, Edward and Susannah and Edward and Elizabeth which shows the amount of Dewis's living there and also the problem you have of finding your line.
There were also Dewis's in Chilvers Coton and I will have a look at those in the next day or so,
Al
