These may or may not be connected to your family but the first is interesting.
1851 census index Bethnal green

Henry Leadbitter age 39 born City of London
1851 census index Whitechapel
HO 107/1546 folio 59
Ellen Leadbeater age 25
James Leadbeater age 1
George age 3
Matthew age 37
1851 surname only index Shoreditch
HO 107/1536 folio534
Leadbetter
Someone will look up the actual census for you but they may be busy at this time of year. If no-one does the lookup within a couple of weeks then ask again quoting the name and reference.
It may be a good idea next time to list the children you know as well as ages and places of birth. All information is helpful to people doing look ups.

Hi Manga,
Just had a look at 1871 for your Maria - would you believe the results come back with no exact matches as to age and location, but give 2,716 to go through - couldn't even find John Wheeler Leadbitter/or variations.
Not all of the 1871 is online yet so could still turn up somewhere and there are only partial indexes so far for 1861.
Will watch as I trawl through and let you know if I see any of them.

Hello
I'm doing a bit of housekeeping and notice this rather old request. Are you still looking for this information? If so can you be specific about which lookups you're still seeking ...
Regards
Jonathan

I have a bit of information on this family and would love to swap information with you. Amy Leadbitter , his daughter, went to Australia. Henry born 1811, had a sister named Elizabeth born about 1823. She also went to Australia.
I know that Henry had died prior to 1864 as he was dead when Amy married her husband Andrew Houliston in Sydney. A newpaper clipping describes the Late Henry Leadbitter of London.
Maria was Maria Thurston Wheeler born 21 June 1812 at St marlebone Rd, London. Her parents were John Wheeler and Harriett Miller. John was born 1779. They were married 1806. Chittern All Saints Wiltshire. (as far as I know from snippets that I have found over the years)

Just out of curiosity what part of the family are you related to?
Henry was born 1812, died 1857....I am still debating on some parts of the family, just waiting on ancestry to place more london records online for me, that may be able to verify some details on the family, as their name is one that can be spelt many ways.
-
I am a descendant of Elizabeth Leadbitter who had a son in Australia named James Adelong Leadbitter. He married a widow Sarah Jane Lee and they had a son George Frederick Leadbitter in 1888.
Spelling is a problem.
Elizabeth came to Australia aboard "Steebonheath" in 1858. Travelling with her Nephew William Leadbitter and her Niece Alice Leadbitter.
Elizabeth was 33, a housekeeper with her native place as Greenwich, Kent. Her mother was living at Plumbstead Kent in 1857.
Elizabeths Death certificate names Thomas Leadbitter, a bank clerk , as her father and Nancy Yeates as her mother... Details were given by her Son, James Adelong Leadbitter.
-
Now I am wondering where you fit in also...
-
I am related to Amy Harriet leadbitter, who married Andrew Houliston, Henry william Leadbitter died 23/3/1857 in Bethnal Green. will go through my stuff and see what I have.
-
Do you know if there was a person with the surname Dennett, as Elizabeth Leadbitter was suppose to have had a sister named Mrs Dennett living at Goulburn when she came to Australia in 1858.
As yet we cant find the Mrs Dennett...
-
yes! Sarah elizabeth's sister married a edward dennett, sarah died 1863 in orange nsw.
-
Ok, I have a Sarah Leadbitter listed as her sister but I didnt have any other information on her. So the Sarah Dennett at Orange is definately a possibility. I have looked up her Death on the NSW BDM and it has her fathers name as William. All my records for Elizabeth has her fathers name as Thomas Leadbitter. Both Elizabeth and Sarah both have the mothers name as Nancy so I am a bit confused by the two fathers names being different.
Hoping you may have so explanation.

I have certificates that often contain inaccurate information, as the informant may not have known the details of the father. Maybe his name was thomas william, as Henry was Henry William leadbitter.
