Reg,
Are you carrying out research in Shalford, or was it just a general inquirey.
Just out of interest being a Shalfordian living in Eastbourne.

I have been researching my relos in Shalford area. Mainly Austens and Bedfords. The enquiry I made here is so that I can put into my database how far Shalford is from London. Just purely a little bit of info for those who don't know the geography of England (myself included).

Reg,
The Austens, and Godwin-Austens (Godwin added by decree of Queen Victoria) virtually owned Shalford and surrounding villages at one time, name goes back 100s years.
Good luck with your research, and Happy New year.

Sorry I didn't get back earlier on this. Yes, I have a bit of info about the Austens and realise they were quite a part of the area. I was fortunate that a person on this forum took pics of brasses and hatchments in St Mary's Church Shalford. A wonderful person to do that. you can see them if you do a search for St Mary's.
Cheers
