There may be continued intermmittent outages over the next few days, but we will try and keep these as short as possible.

Trystan,
Thanks for letting us Aussies know. I have been trying on and off since this morning.
I feel much better now knowing there is nothing wrong with my Computer.
Sarra :) :)

I got on first thing this morning to a new format then it all went haywire ......... was it something to do with the format which caused the problem??
Barbara

Pretty - blue, grey and white - very sophisticated and cool but it said 'Database error - contact an Administrator' :-\
-
Oooooh, mine didn't .......... just the pretty blue and white with a completely different way of displaying the topics.

We all take our access to Rootschat for granted so feel dismay when the familiar becomes unavailable. Sorry to know that there are problems with the nuts and bolts Trystan. Thank you for sharing the news and for all the unsung effort you and others put in on our behalf.

Again, many thanks indeed.

Oh dear!! I'll have to apologise to Telstra!!

For me, losing Rootschat, even for an hour, is like having life support terminated. ;D I need help! A clinic perhaps? ;D Jayson

I already attend that clinic, Jayson...!
keith

Phew! I'm not alone then? ;D

Thank you for your hard work fixing it Trystan - we Antipodeans were in withdrawal all day! ;)
Me too - I was emailing where I could to find out if I was alone in my misery. Many thanks for the message
Trish

Unfortunately the only cure for this particular malady:
RootsChat Withdrawal Symptoms (RWS)
is ......... RootsChat ;D
unless you go for the really drastic cure: give up genealogy :o
-
:o :o :o :o :o Give up Genealogy :o :o :o :o :o :o
What a dreadful suggestion :o :o :o
;D
Betty
-
BOB, YOU'RE KIDDING, RIGHT???
I couldn't do that. I'm glad that this notice was posted because I like others thought the problem was my computer or something technical that I couldn't deal with.
WHEW!! :)
Kathleen
-
C'mon tell the truth ............. Sarah was chasing Trystan round the table again and tripped over the plug .........it took them ages to find out the problem .............!!!!
Barbara

Thanks for letting us know, Trystan. The message I got was something along the lines that there were so many people using the site they couldn't let me in
. . . I felt like the only kid not invited to the party - imagined you all having a great time, and I'd never know . . .
Like being 16 all over again!
so glad to be back in.
Lesley

Thanks for the service update and the debugging job Trystan :-*
I was like a baby whos rattle had been taken away ;D

I must say that I misread the title of the thread, when I first spotted it, as:
"Rootschat Outrage".
Thought we'd done something terrible to the World, for a moment or two...

Well I'm really pleased to see I wasn't the only one feeling like a lost soul today. It was like I had lost a limb and to think I'm going on holidays for 3 weeks and won't have access to roots...how on earth am I going to cope :o :o :o
Caz
-
::) I thought I had done something wrong !!! LOL
Glad we are all back ok!!!! 8)
-
AHA ! Just seen the explanation !
I thought it said 'OUTRAGE' !!
You can now see how many people feel totally bereft once RC is 'out' !
Thanks for all the good work, Trystan and mods !
-
Thanks for all your messages of support, and of those missing RootsChat when we are offline - it makes it so worthwhile!
My apologies again for the downtime - next time I'll try not to uplug it by mistake when I'm vacuuming the house (Sarah would wish! ::) )
-
You know how to use the VACUUM ??
My goodness, I hope Sarah realises what a gem she has, Trystan !
-
Don't believe him Lydart .... he lies like a rug !! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
-
Well.... no I've just heard the vacuum - not sure what Sarah is doing with it really - she sort of strokes the carpet with it, I'm just guessing it's a way of pushing the mice out of the way.
-
Next thing you know he'll be blaming Tux the penguin for the problems. ;D ;D

I found a dead and very smelly shrew inside the sofa bed today ... our cat catches them, brings them inside, and then lets them go ...
Sorry ... off topic !
-
Watch out, he's going to change the fuse any minute now :)
-
Thanks for the update Trystan, ;D
it was like bees round a honey pot,
buzzing everywhere,
usually when my phone rings, friends say hello, blah blah, social niceties etc,
but last night it was,
Hello,I cant get on Rootschat, can you?
talk about a buzzzzzzzzz, flapping their wings .lol!!!
Hope things are sorted out now.
Bennett

Thanks for the update, I just assumed it was my computer.

You may be closer than you realise with that statement, Keith.
There are so many sites containing online genealogical data that genealogical tourism is dying a slow death. See my post in reply to Moira's on the Armagh Ancestry thread (http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,246509.new.html#new) which contains an article referring to the death of genealogical tourism in Ireland. It's a bit like the shrew found by Lydart.

Sorry ... off topic !
Well maybe it's a related topic as you couldn't log on to RootsChat, Lydart 8)

Thanks Trystan,
Where would we be without Rootschat?
cheers
Kassie

Thanks Trystan ;D I thought it was just Annie answering a hundred
postings all at once ;D
::) :P *AHEM*...ok. I admit it...I read it as outrage as well )
I like the new search page, Trystan, although I'm not sure it has sped up things up at all...but the categories should prove to be very efficient I should think...

J.J.
J.J. Have you got a new Search page? It looks the same to me.
I feel deprived :'(
I think Trystan might have taken out the preliminary page which is great :D
-
It's just the advanced search page Gadget, like you say, the preliminary search has gone.
Barbara
-
There you go, I've never taken the time to search through the advanced search page ;D haha ... But then the search always worked fine just the way it was until lately...so never had a need...What a busy site this has become!
J.J.
-
Thanks for letting us know Trystan. Whatever you did while it was down it definitely seems to have speeded things up so it seems to have been worthwhile.
We do appreciate all the hard work you and Sarah have done to give us this site, like others I don't know what we'd do without our daily fix.
Best wishes
Mary
-
I second that Mary! ;D
If we moan and groan and whinge, we don't mean it, we just need our daily fix of rootschat and we do appreciate all your hard work to keep us in the habit!!!!! ;D
Kerry
PS I remember the advanced search page, I think I used it once a long time ago. ::) ::)
-
Funny - I always use the Advanced search, it's quicker if you know the boards that you need to search on. Ordinary search used to take ages :)
All this whinging that we do is just withdrawal symptoms. Maybe we can get a repeat prescription from our GPs :D
Gadget
-
Ok Gadget, so you like advanced, I like the quick fix!!!!!! ::) ::) ::) I have to say though, the Advanced looks much more sensible but then why would I want to be sensible.
Sorry silly mood ;D
I bet a repeat prescription for Rootschat would be better than my repeat prescriptions anyday ::)
Kerry
-
Yes, Kerry! Keep you interested, challenged and the grey matter ticking over. Only problem is it's rather a sedentary habit! :o :o

Someone could make a fortune selling exercise bikes with a laptop welded onto the handle-bars !
Put my name on the list for one of those ;D ;D
-
And mine!! ;D ;D
MarieC
-
Me too! But I'd like to move PC and bike down to the kitchen next to fridge and I would never have to move again ;D ;D ;D ::) ::)
Kerry
-
Er ... um .... how can I put this politely ?
Wouldn't you need the bathroom occasionally ??
-
Lydart
I was being polite and being like a soap opera and not mentioning that but ok yes I would ::) ::) ::) ;D ;D ;D ;) ;)
Kerry
-
You mean you couldn't fashion a bucket of some sort underneath the bicycle? shame on you ;D ;D
-
Now there's a thought! ;D
Kerry
-
OFF TOPIC !!!!
-
Someone could make a fortune selling exercise bikes with a laptop welded onto the handle-bars !
;D This from the topic stray! ;D
Well, I've found if you can talk about it, it can be done...Hubby says wouldn't a little table frame be ever so neat? All your photos could be uploaded and they just play over again so that you only need the one frame....
and there one now sits on a friend's table...because someone's taken the idea to the bank...quick Lydart! Make the thing! ( ...eeeoooo...sans bucket.... :P)
-
I like the idea of the bike - BUT it would need to have a very comfy seat. Not one of the ordinary bike seats that are most uncomfortable. :) :)
Sarra ;D

Ladies & Gents,
We seem to have travelled rather a long way from the original subject - for the moment, discussion is closed. ;)
