I have Donald Macaulay born about 1820 at Haclett, South Uist son of John and Mary Catherine Macintyre. Donald married Marion Campbell 1855 Feb 18 at Iochdar. Marion was born about 1833 at Kildonan, SU the daughter of Angus and Mary Campbell. They had at least 11 children. Does anyone have connections to this family?

I do know something about the people you mention. Angus Campbell was son of Roderick Campbell and Marion [?] MacCormick. His wife was also a Campbell by birth, daughter of Ewen Campbell and her mother was a Steele. Angus and his wife later lived in Geirinish and he died in Lochcarnan on the north coast of South Uist. His sons Roderick, Angus and Ewen all settled in Benbecula in the eastern pendiles, Uiskevagh and Kilerivagh just across the South Ford from their father. There are descendants still in the islands.
As to Donald MacAulay, I have his place of birth as Kildonan rather than Hacklet - or did I see another posting where you mentioned Lionacleit? I would be interested to know the source of that info. as I am not aware of any Census or other evidence to place John or Mary Catherine in Benbecula rather than South Uist. The marriage 'at Iochdar' will of course just have been the recording of the marriage at St Michael's, Ardkenneth as conventionally Mr Seumas [Fr James MacGregor] married the couple in the relevant township, in this case I assume probably Geirinish.

Glad to hear from you angusm. It is nice to hear from someone who has information on these families as I feel a bit lost doing it on my own. I have never been to this area and find the place names with their various spellings a bit confusing. I didn't know the names of Angus and Mary Campbells parents. Where is that information from? Do you know when Angus died at Lochcarnan?
The only children I have for them is Marion and John. I didn't know about sons Roderick, Angus and Ewen.
On Donald MacAulay's marriage registration his place of birth is given as Haclet-and registered at Garefleuck. It doesn't say where they were married just James MacGregor Iochdar. It is too bad they don't say.

I think Garryfliuch may have been where Fr MacGregor was based before the church at Ardkenneth was built. I have marriage and death records for the Campbells in Benbecula. if you care to drop me a note off the board, I am happy to send you more detail on the family. What I have not collected together is Marion's children, presumably born in South Uist rather than Benbecula. Angus

I should have said Roderick, DONALD [rather than Angus, who was in the next generation] and Ewen were the three sons of Angus and Mary who settled in Benbecula. Sorry about that. The older Angus died 20.1.1858 in Lochcarnan and Mary 10.4.1869 in Uiskevagh.

angusm I sent you a private message. Did you get it?

I am trying to research the parents of John McVicar born 1834 Scotland, I was told from Isle of Skye.
I only have the names of his parents:
Angus McVicar and Ann McAly(do not know if this is proper spelling-recently found the MacAulay spelling that sounded similar). Both his parents were born in Scotland.
I know it is a stretch but I was wondering if this Ann might have been in your family? Or you might have some direction for me to research.
With the McVicars having such large families I'm pretty sure there should be more children for Angus and Ann than John but I have not found his family, any information on his parents or their families.
Thanx
Nannette

Hi Dollard,
Are you still looking for birthdates/names for the kids of Angus & Mary Campbell as I think I can fill a few gaps?
Regards, Anne Marie

Thanks Anne Marie. My list of children is quite different than what you have there. Confusing. My information comes from census, Scotlandspeople, and Angus MacMillian. Is there anyway I can send my inforamtion in an attachment?
