Hello everyone.
I have details of a marriage in my family
at the Bath Hotel, Glasgow in 1919.
Can someone please tell me if it was known by another name then
and, if possible, the address of where it is/was situated.
If anyone knows where I would be able to find any photos anywhere, that
would be great.
Hope someone can help.
Thanks
Raylen

I live in Glasgow and guessed it would be in Bath Street.
There may be other photos and if I find any I'll send you the link.

You are welcome. I was kinda pleased with that myself. It seems to be solicitors offices now so, if they want a divorce....... ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

I've been trying to find The Bath Hotel too :) My Grandparents were married here in 1890 :)
-
The Bath Hotel was located in Argyle Street, between Wellington St., and West Campbell.
I seem to recall that it ceased trading as a hotel during the 1970's and lay disused for a long period of time.
Looking at the site on Streetview, it appears to have been resurrected as the "Alexander Thomson Hotel", 320 Argyle Street, Glasgow, G2 8LY.

Interesting Istrice. I need to check that out.
I think you're wrong, but it needs checking.

Maybe there were 2 Bath Hotels. The one you speak of, and the one where loadsa folk got married.
-
I've just managed to find another one of 'my' marraiges in the hotel. Address given as 152 Bath St.
I guess the hotel you're aware of isn't the one where folk were getting married.
I'm really interested to look into the one you mention.
Clearly not the one folk were getting married in.
-
I'm confused :-[ , i was excited to see pictures of The Bath Hotel , i thought at last a picture of where my Grandparents were married but now i'm not sure :(

Here's the Canmore entry for The Bath Hotel at 152 Bath Street.
Interesting that it is on the corner of West Campbell St which Istrice mentions.
Haven't been successful in locating any info on another Bath Hotel.

Daval et al,
You are correct, and I apologise for the misinformation and subsequent wild goose chase.
The hotel at 320 Argyle Street was the Blythswood Hotel and not the Bath Hotel.

Not to worry Istrice. I had great fun getting sidetracked going down memory lane to parts of Glasgow I haven't been in for years. :)

This photo was taken around 1910 at a wedding at the Bath Hotel, 152 Bath Street, Glasgow. I know my Great Aunt and Great Uncle are in the photo but I'm also hoping to find out who the bride and groom are.

In fact, the hotel gives a special weekend rate. Details can be obtained from the manager, Mr Redmont.
The Strathclyde Suite in the Bath Hotel is available for weddings, functions, etc.' and it won't cost you anything to hire it.
The Campsie Bar, the Hotel's attractive lounge, is another favourite spot. For couples and residents only, the bar is open at weekends.

Copy and pasted. I actually remember going to the La Caverna bar late 60s early 70s in the Bath Hotel, Bath St. Glasgow

Wondered if folk might be interested in my Grandparent's wedding menu. They were married at the Bath Hotel, Glasgow on 19 June 1925. I will post a wedding picture outside the hotel.

Brilliant Fiona , well done 😃

My dad was the entertainment in the Bath Hotel in the 1960s-mid 70s. He was a professional singer. I have a great memory of being taken there for dinner as a treat for my 9th birthday.

Mhairi, Interested to see that your surname is also Forrest. I wonder whether we're related. My Forrests were from Glasgow, having moved there from Dunbartonshire/Stirlingshire and there are indications following DNA testing that even earlier Forrest family had connections to elsewhere in North Lanarkshire, namely around Carluke.
If you are on Facebook, I run a small group that relates to Forrests with ancestry in Scotland.... https://www.facebook.com/groups/forrests.in.scotland/ (https://www.facebook.com/groups/forrests.in.scotland/)

Not sure if we’re related. I was born and raised in Maryhill in Glasgow. My dad’s dad was Archie Forrest from Glasgow and he won the Irish sweepstakes in the 1930s.

The only Archie (Archibald) I'm aware of in my direct family was born in 1855 in Biggar, clearly too old to be the same Archie you refer to.
I've done some research for other of my Forrest contacts and have details of at least a dozen or so Archibald Forrests, but again, they are all much too old - some going back to between the mid 18th and mid 19th C. Could be you are descended from one of them if the name was passed down through the family.
-
My dad is Archie too. 😊

I spent my honeymoon night in the Bath Hotel at 11 Blythswood Square (a long long time ago!). Looking at the photos added previously on this thread, its now called "The Principal Blythswood Square"....and a spa.

Not the same building. The Bath Hotel previously mentioned in this thread was at 152 Bath Street.
The Principle Blythswood is a block or two further south in Blythswood Square - No idea whether it was ever called The Bath Hotel.

Had a word with my husband and we're both convinced the one at 11 Blythswood Square was called the Bath Hotel.....now you've got us wondering!
Anyone got access to telephone directory for 1970 Glasgow? It will save me a trip up to the loft...I'm sure we've got the receipt for our night's stay! ;D ;D

You could be right. I just only know of the one in Bath St.
Best I can come up with re diectory is from 1975 when the only Bath Hotel recorded in it was the one in Bath St.
-
Hi,
No11 Blythswood Square was the headquarters of the Royal Scottish Automobile Club (RSAC) prior to 1926, and until it was sold to Blythswood Developers in 2002.
The building was converted into a 5* hotel which opened in 2009. (See attached ref. http://www.hotelsthatwerenot.com/product.php?shopprodid=71)
The Spa shown on Google maps with the address "11 Blythswood Square" is actually in West Regent Street.

Great answer Istrice.
Looks like you're going to have to go up to the loft Kate! ;)

Not a hotel per se in 1970, but it was a Club that had dining and sleeping facilities I understand, so perhaps a visit to the loft should be deferred.
