Hi Eddie
Can you make it clear which marriage came first?    If you give a name and date of birth for one of her children we can look at the birth index and confirm her maiden name from that.  Her death record might give a date of birth too. Was she really 113 when she died?

Did your grandmother die in 2005?  The only one I can see who was 92 at death died in 1985 in Northumberland and was born in 1892.

The maiden name given for your mum's birth record is Wilson so that helps.   However there are far too many to be sure which one Mary is in 1901.   Did your mum have older brothers and sisters?     That would cut down the years to search for a marriage and save a lot of time.  Give as much detail as you can.

Well spotted!   I was just beginning to think that Shail was a non starter as nothing was coming up in that part of the country at all!
Richard was born 1912 and Maria in 1914.    That made them a lot older than your mum Eddie.   When were her real siblings born?  Any idea how much older they were?

Eddie, you are so cheeky!  ;D

Actually, do you know what?  You can find out!!

All you have to do is send for the certificate...

Sorry but that is the only reliable way of finding out.  I will have a "peek" at the BMDs to see if there is a suitable chap though...

Only teasing, Eddie!

There are a lot of William PEAKE births, I have just discovered, but none that have the right middle initials.  It is quite possible that he was registered with just the one name and the others were added later - some are just registered as "Male" (although often those are the ones that didn't survive, sadly).

I hope others will have a look for you - maybe someone has more resources at their disposal.

Do you still have rellies that you could ask about where William was born - have you found his death record (I will look for that now...)

Last resort is buying the cert, as I say

Title: Shale Wilson
Post by: Shale on Tuesday 20 November 07 17:36 GMT (UK)
Hi Eddie,

Mary & JR Shale married in 1912. They had Richard 1912, Maria 1914 died 1914, then another Maria 1915.
John Robert was killed at Somme, France 15 Sep 1916.

I can find no Emma Shale being born between 1912 -1917.
Could she possibly be the child of William Peake?

Regards
Shale
