Hi,
I was wondering if a kind person might be able to look up some people for me in the 1662 hearth tax of Dorset. I'm interested in people with the surnames Forse/Fosse and Goare/Gore in the Cattistock area.
Any help would be much appreciated. :)
Jane.

Dorset Hearth Tax Assessments 1662-4:
Catstocke tithing, hundred of Sherborne:
Willm' FOSSE, two hearths - so, reasonably well off.
Will try to do GORE tomorrow.

This Hearth Tax record was only an assessment, for the government to see how much they might be able to raise for a war against the Dutch.
Symondsbury tithing, Whitchurch hundred:
Henry Goare, two hearths
Stocatrum (sic) tithing, Whitchurch hundred:
Francis Gore, two hearths
Have taken variants of surnames into account, but there weren't any! Hope at least one of these people helps you.

Hi Viv,
Thanks so much for looking those people up for me. The William Fosse is definitely mine. I haven't got into the Goares in great depth yet, so I'm not sure at this stage if I can lay claim or not to Henry and Francis.
Thanks again! :D
Jane.
