Hi Everybody,
I don't know if anybody can help, but i was wondering if anybody has copies of the above parish records and could look to see if any of the following Mead's may appear in them. It is a bit of a longshot, as i know that they were in Writtle from about 1767'ish but we can't find any baptisms for any of them so suspect they came from outside the parish. Great Waltham and High Easter are my first choices, as we have found some of the individuals named on mortgage/lease records for some property and some references to these places.
The individuals in question are :
Isaac Mead. I know he married a lady called Lydia, but don't know were or when. They had 11 children, the first be baptized in Writtle in 1767 with the others following. Isaac Died in writtle in 1807, but no idea what age. Lydia died in 1813 at the aged of 77, so was born in about 1736. Lydia is the one who is mentioned in most of the records i found on the seax site.
Joseph Mead. He was a brother of Isaac who was mentioned in his will. I suspect this is the same Joseph mentioned on the Mortgage records as Lydia (Isaac's wife) who is a farmer in High Easter.
Benedicta Mead. She married a Joseph Woolmor, in Writtle in 1764. He is often mentoned on the same Seax records as Isaac as being from High Ongar. I strongly suspect that Benedicta is therefore a sister of Isaac, but have nothing to confirm this.
Mary Mead. She married a John Lucking in 1760 in Writtle. A J.Lucking was a witness to Benedicta's Marriage to Joseph, so i suspect she was Mary's sister. A Thomas Lucking & William Lucking are also mentioned on the records a Lydia for the mortgage, so i strongly suspect a family link between the luckings and Isaac & Lydia.
Finally, the Great Waltham connection is that i have found a record that implies the properties that Isaac and the other's had the mortgages/leases on came from an Ann & George Stock, who are from Great Waltham. I therefore think that they must have had some link to Great Waltham as it is a reasonable distance from Writtle, to obtain the properties.
Sorry it is so long winded.

Hi Again Richard
I took the liberty of looking at the Barnston Parish Records (as i have them on Fiche) and it's not far from Great Waltham.
There were no MEAD Marriages. I checked 1670-1810.
But there are these burials. I checked 1700 - 1981
Joseph MEAD Abode Barnston buried 8/11/1839 aged 72 years
Elizabeth MEAD Abode Barnston buried 2/6/1848 aged 70 years
Joseph MEAD Abode North End,Great Waltham buried 8/12/1884 aged 78 years
Ann MEAD abode North End buried 1/8/1893 aged 68 years
Ronald James MEAD abode The Brook, Barnston died 30/12/1936 buried 2/1/1937
Arthur Ernest MEADE died 28/7/1970
Dorce Elizabeth MEAD died 16/5/1974
Baptisms 1690- 1812
Jonas MEAD son of Isaac & Mary MEAD 22/1/1758
Sarah daughter of Isaac & Mary MEAD 6/7/1760
William son of William & Sarah MEAD 28/2/1792 or 1793
I do hope this information helps with your Meads. It looks like some of it has a connection Especially Thomas & Benedicta Mead and their Children and the Mead/Stock Marriage too.
Good luck and if you need anything else looked up in Great Waltham or Barnston please send me a message and i'll do my best.
And by the way i am awaiting the fiche for Little Waltham so i will check them when i get them.

There are some MEAD Baptisms at High Easter in the years 1654-1723 which I have transcribed and put on FreeReg. Just choose Essex, type MEAD in surname box (tick soundex) and and then choose High Easter in the box at bottom left for a list. There were no burials and only a couple of marriages as follows
Daniel Luck of HIGH EASTER & Sarah Mead 15/10/1782 at (married at Great Waltham)
William Mede & Sarah Allen 22 July 1701 married at High Easter.
However you might want to check those on FreeReg too as others may have added something.
If you would like a list of baptisms please message me your email address as they are in a table and it doesn't post well here.
