Hello Francine
Thanks for your reply----unfortunately none of my Burton's were from Deeping St James.
They were from Childerley in Cambridgeshire, Coston in Leicestershire & Scopwick in Lincolnshire.
Good luck with your searches

I am researching the Burton Family from Hinckley, Leicestershire and Nuneaton, Warwickshire.
Does that tie in with any of your research?

Hi Trubrit
There may be some connection (always the optimist)
Do you have any connections with Braunston in Rutland or Hinckley?
Will you please give details of any Leicestershire area Burtons you have in your tree---thankyou

Hello Alan
I am descended from William Burton (1787- 1877) of Hinckley and his son Joseph Burton (1818-1899) from Hinckley.
Do these appear in your family history?

My maternal g grandfather, Henry John Burton was born in Belper in Leicestershire about 1854 , he married Hannah Elizabeth Croysdill, also of Belper and the marriage was in Belper in 1884. He had one brother, Joseph and at least four sisters, viz Sarah Anne, Mary Jane, Agnes and Emma.
The Henry and his wife moved to Sutton on Sea in Lincolnshire (called Sutton in the Marsh then) employed by the Railway - he was a platelayer and his wife minded the crossing. They had four sons, William, George, Thomas (my grandfather) and Wilfred.
Remnants of the original family in Belper, included, Joseph who was a master baker. I am the only person still alive from Thomas, yet, Wilfred has numeropus descendants around Doncaster.

Hi Tony
Thanks for your message, however I don't think we have a match.
My g grandfather was called James Henry Burton who was also a Railway Signalman. He was at Scopwick Station in Lincolnshire and also at Lincoln.
He was born in Buckminster in Leicestershire.
Good Luck with your searches

Hi Francine,Just saw your post while scrolling through looking for possible connections.I have John Burton b (I believe) St. James Deeping, who married Mary Cowham at Spalding 23 May 1775;they had 8 children 5 sons and three daughters, but I have no immediate track of a George. The sons were William,Percy, James, Joseph (my 2Xgreat grandfather 1792-1884) and Benjamin. I have some more information on the family, mainly from Rootschat, but I have not yet entered it on my tree.Do you know the names of his parents, as I think there might be a connection in the earlier generation?
