Hi treebuster,

I'd contact Brixham Council or the local library.  He might even have featured in the local newspapers as well.

Nanny Jan

p.s. Looks like it now comes under Torbay Council.

Dear Treebuster
You may find that the Brixham Heritage Museum may be able to do a search of their archives for you
http://www.brixhamheritage.org.uk/
I also had an Uncle named George Clift who was apparently a councillor in Brixham.  George died in 1958 so I guess he was a councillor in the 1950s, possibly 1940s. This is not something I have looked into yet myself.  If you find come across anything interesting perhaps you'd let me know ?

Forgot to say Torquay Library has a super family history room covering a lot of Torbay including Brixham - an email to them might help

Councils will hold records of their councillors and possibly a photograph as well.

When i said nothing was found on him  at Brixhm Heritage museum want i meant to say was a photograph was not found although there was  mention of what he was responsble for while serving in office.

Hi Treebuster
I have received a very detailed reply from Torquay Library - so it is definately worth contacting them if you have not already done so.  Unfortunately they found no mention of my Uncle - but they did search very carefully and also found some obituaries.  Apparently they have a gap in their records for councilors from 1948 to 1952 so they recommended that I also contact the Devon Record Office and the West Country Studies Library.

They were very helpful
