Mant thanks for the link. Unfortunately seems majority of them are Protestants, whilst mine are Catholics.
The Killyleagh link is a family rumour but reading this link
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~rosdavies/PHOTOSwords/KillyleaghAll.htm#cath
It seems there was only 5 catholics living in the town,so they cant have lived there.
Cheers anyway

I have just assembled John James Alice and Jean all with early 1800 birthdates on the Ulster Historical Foundation website www.ancestryireland .com and then hit the wrong key excitedly and lost them all. You can look up them up yourself it’s a pay to view site. I would first double check all Co Down Drakes in www.familysearch.com for Ireland, as these would be free.
My earlier reaction was you are to quick to judge Ros Davies website not including enough to get a line on some catholic Co down Drakes.
James DRAKE . Bright of Conianstown; colonel in United Irishmen at Battle of Ballynahinch; supported Thomas Russell's Rebellion of 1803 & hanged at Downpatrick Gaol Oct 1803; photo of Charles Drake, his brother available MO 14 &21/5/03 & 18/6/03; FSFD p46; LM 1992 p37; MOA p317  [Jim adds although many Presbyterians were members of the United Irishmen the majority were catholics. I would want to check this man further] Jim adds Conianstown is also spelt Coniamstown it’s a townland on the middle north of Bright parish which is underneath ie south of Downpatrick. I read into the history this townland had connections to Catholicism.
Francis DRAKE . Drumgooland sponsor at the baptism of Mary , daughter of Michael O'Hare & Catherine McCartin 12 May 1869 at Leitrim Catholic Church PR
[Jim adds Ros Davies information on church records for
Catholic Church of Immaculate Conception-Upper Drumgooland in Leitrim townland on the road between Castlewellan and Dromore. The graveyard has mainly 20th century graves. PRONI & NLI have baptisms, marriages & burials 1832-1880;UHF has baptisms 1827 -1900 & marriages 1827 -1900; LDS Film # 0926082 has baptisms 26 May 1827- 28 Dec 1800, marriages 9 Aug 1827- 28 Dec 1880, burials 6 May 1828- 2 Nov 1880]
Gargary Catholic Church- Lower Drumgooland on the road between Banbridge and Castlewellan modern graveyard; PRONI & NLI have baptisms & marriages & burials 1827-1880; LDS has baptisms 1817-1946; UHF has baptisms 1832-1900 & marriages 1886-1900
James DRAKE . Drumgooland of Backaderry; with Patrick O'Hare, leased 11 acres in 1849 from Annesley estate, rent for 1/2 year was £2.19.6; in arrears by £20.16.6 AERR  [Jim adds Backaderry townland is between Leitrim village and the Annesley estate at Castlewellan]
Miss Maria  DRAKE . Drumgooland regt. Ballyward; wife of Hugh Kelly; mother of Agnes b. 1865 CR [Jim adds Ballyward is the next village on the west side of Leitrim
Miss Rose DRAKE . Drumgooland regt. Ballyward; wife of Hugh Heenan; mother of Patrick b. 1869 CR
Anyway good luck, Jim

Cheers Jim, I did go down the road of the Ulster Society pay per view site, Paid the £6 for   :o for one record of John Drake from Banbridge Dromore, whose father turned out to be John and got quite excited.I then paid another £6! for Alice's record and they had different fathers (Mind lived in same town and on same street unbelievably!) .
So back square one.

As for the rest, I think i'll have to read your message again and again to digest..its flying well over my head at moment  ;D

cheers

At the tender age of 14 in 1949 I joined the schools Combined Cadet force and immediately came under the towering influence of a giant ex RSM Percy Drake and still have all my teeth [well almost at 72] to  prove it ;D Actually he was a gentle giant but he could be the reason I have become slightly hard of hearing nowdays!  Sometime let me know the oldest Gracey connection in your history

Cheers for those, Mine are bit further back to about 1820-1830
But looks like plenty Drakes in the area after that time.

Any idea when Killyleagh Roman Catholic Church
was built ? and if there was no church there in 1820 would they have gone to Crossgar ?

The history of the Killyleagh Roman Catholic Churches are on Ros Davies website under churches, then by civil parish. So there you will find a record of Killyleagh people walking to and from mass in Crossgar in 1824, but there was an earlier catholic church. her notes are good, Jim

Capt. Jim,

Reckon that Percy Drake took you for an impostor and was trying to knock your middle "T"s in to proper shape!

His family married in to ours.
I'll put you in contact with our "ould fella" who will enjoy swapping boxing stories with you.

Cheers & Vermouth, Ho!

Capt. Jock

Hi there,
I'm researching an Andrew Drake, from around 1890-1930, from the Killyleagh/Crossgar/Kilmore/Tullykin area of County Down. His son, Henry "Harry" Drake was born in 1917. Harry served with The Irish Guards  in the 1930s, but "disappeared after discharge in 1947, until his death was recorded in Glasgow 1960. Harry's burial is being sought by a descendant, who believes it may bee around the Crossgar/Kilmore area, in an unmarked or overgrown grave, but he is struggling to find any record or reason why this information was recorded as it is. Andrew's great grandson, Rob Drake, in The States is seeking any information.

Just as a complete by-the-way, I see one of your ancestral names is Tate, a variation on my name  (Tait), I know of connections in Glasgow/Edinburgh/Inverness-shire, wonder if there's a connection - all reivers! Any DNA stat available on your side?
Ken

There’s a marriage for an Andrew Drake from Tullykin to Rosenna Murphy on 13.11.1917:

https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/marriage_returns/marriages_1917/09759/5541938.pdf

This is probably him in 1911:

http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Down/Crossgar/Crossgar/239079/

Son Henry looks to have been born 12.4.1918. You can view the original certificate on-line on the GRONI website, using the “search registrations” option:

https://geni.nidirect.gov.uk

You will need to open an account and buy some credits. It costs £2.50 (sterling) to a view a certificate.

Yes, That's the correct family okay, I'll forward this info to Rob - I suspect he may already have this, but It will help him to know we're looking in the correct area.
Thanks for your input,
Ken
