I'm trying to find the bap of JANE HOWBRIDGE born circa 1811 in Hornsea. I have asked the same question on the north riding board so hope I'm ok to ask here!
I'm not quite certain which reg district Hornsea would be in either, or the villages which surround it as her bap could well have been done elsewhere!
Cheers

Hi
Have a look at this for your area and nearby places

I had a look at the IGI and could only find the following Howbridge's all born Hornsea; Sarah Howbridge chr. 16th May 1804
Mary Howbridge chr 18th June 1806
Ann Howbridge chr 1st April 1809 Father of all three was Henry Howbridge and Mother Ann

I replied to this in the other section.

Hi Liam,
Success! I checked out the Hornsea PRs this morning at the Beverley Record Office. The handwriting is very small and very faint but I could just make out -
baptised March 17 1811 Jane d/o Henry & Ann.
To be honest, the beginning of the surname could have been any 3 letters but it definetly ended in 'bridge'!! Could explain why it was missed from the IGI - or possibly even transcribed as something else.

Liam,
I have found another person yesterday looking for the same information who I am now in contact with. I have sent you a personal PM if you would like information about the rest of the Howbridge line.

I hadn't realised the original post is nearly one year old, and, looking at Liam's profile, he hasn't been on RC since - so perhaps we shouldn't hold our breaths aiting for his reply. :-\

Thank you for that Jill!! Think Liam hit a wall with his research with his Irish roots, but I'v kept up with the Yorkshire lot! I'm addicted to the search! I hadn't found Jane, but definitely looks like her, 2 of her children were named Henry and Ann which I thought could well have been parents' names.
Brilliant find! I haven't managed to find a marriage for Henry and Ann though, nor any census' with them. Possibly they had died before 1841, but without a marriage or place if birth I'm stuck!

I have tons of info on the Howbridge line. We have a whole group of us descendents that are working together on the line. Send me a private email. I emailed Liam. I can answer the marriage question and there are 7 siblings to Jane.

Forgot to say I also have census information for them (1841-1901) and in contact from yesterday with another descendant of Jane's.

Hi again,
The marriage is on the IGI - in Beeford, which is only about 5/6 miles from Hornsea:
21 Jan 1801 Henry Hughbridge & Ann Wilkinson
;D

The odd thing we have come across is that the youngest son we know of is called John Wilkinson Howbridge at birth but on his grave stone (we found it and took a pic) which he shares with an older brother he is John Thompson Howbridge. We can't explain the discrepancy since the ages match. Perhaps just a mistake.
I need to find a death record. Can you help with that Jill?
-
I'll try! :-\
Can you tell me when he died and where he's buried? If it was after 1837, have you not sent for a death certificate?
Jill
-
No he died too young for certificate. According to his grave stone he died on April 16th 1835 aged 17 years. It makes sense that he has his mother's maiden name as his middle name so not sure where the Thompson comes from unless he had two middle names or it is a mistake. I'm still researching on IGI and 1841 census for explanations and family connections.

I've made a note to look at the Hornsea burials next time I go to the RO - it may be a couple of weeks.
I take it, it is Hornsea where you saw the gravestone?
Jill
-
Sorry - I didn't notice your last posting: it IS Hornsea!!

Hi Jo,
I checked out the Hornsea burial PRs at the East Yorkshire RO this morning.
You'll be pleased to know that the entry is -
April 19 1835 John WILKINSON NEWBRIDGE aged 17 abode: Beverley
I don't know what went wrong with the gravestone - possibly none of the family were literate so didn't notice the mistake?
Jill
-
Thanks Jill. It has cleared that up for me. Can I confirm it was under Newbridge rather than Hewbridge for my database?
Thanks again.
-
Hi,
Yes - I've definitely written Newbridge in my notes.

Thanks again.
