I would be grateful for any census information on the following family:
Susanna Reilly Wood born 1826 at Slamannan daughter of William Wood and Mary Main.
Susanna married John Robertson in 1847 at Slamannan and they had at least 4 children born at Slamannan:
Mary Main Robertson b1847
Margaret Hastie Robertson b1850
Susanna Robertson b1853
Jessie Robertson b1855
Susanna Reilly Wood died in 1867 at Slamannan, so what I am trying to find out is whether she had any other children and also what happened to the children.

1851 Blinkbony Row, Slamannan, Stirlingshire
John Robertson Head 30 Shoemaker b. Slamannan
Susan Wood Wife 23 b. Slamannan
Mary M. Robertson Dau. 3 ditto
Margt. Robertson Dau. 1 ditto
Arde Robertson Lodger 22 Shoemaker b. Donliton, Lanark
Janet Williams Servant 12
1861 Blinkbonnie, Slamannan
John Robertson Head 40 Shoemaker emp. 2 men b. Slamannan
Susanna Robertson Wife 34 ditto
Mary M. Robertson Dau. 13 ditto
Margaret H. Robertson Dau. 11 ditto
Jessie Robertson Dau. 5 ditto
+ 2 lodgers
1871 Bank Street, Slamannan
John Robertson Head Wdr. 48 Shoemaker emp. 1 man
Jessie Robertson Dau. 15
So, it looks as if dau. Susanna had died by 1861 and no further children were born. I couldn't find Mary and Margaret in 1871 so both could have well married by then.

Hi Andrew,
I found the folllowing in the pre-1855 (East Stirlingshire) MI book for Slamannan Churchyard. I don't know whether the stones are still there or legible.
(Stone is described as an obelisk)
William Wood died at Glen (dilrigg) 21.8.1842 aged 54
His wife Mary Main died 28.5 185(1 or 7)
Stone erected by friends in Slamannan & Falkirk
According to the book, there is another stone next to this one and the description/inscription is as follows:
(Flat Stone under bush)
William Wood of Townhead & Mosscastle . . . . gds . . .
. . . . James Wood . . . . Susanna Alison . . . . . James . . . . son of James & Susanna Weir

Hi Annette & Anne
Thank you for all of this information - it is much appreciated.

Any ideas who Mary Main's parents were? I descend from James Main and Mary Mitchell who lived in Slamannan. His sons were James, who farmed at Balmitchell, and John (my ancestor) who farmed at Easter Glen. John had a daughter, Mary, b. 1804.

I have them as Robert Main and Janet Russell who were married on 1 Apr 1792 at New Monkland.

My g-g-grandmother was Mary Main Robertson. She married William Gray. I think they lived in New Stevenston. He was a spirit merchant. Their son, John, was my grandmother's father.

William Wood died at Glen (dilrigg) 21.8.1842 aged 54
I don't suppose that could be Glenellrig, could it?

Hi Forforian - I think you are correct. My family had connections to a number of farms in the area including Boxton and Redbrae, which are both very close to Glenellrig.
Regards

Im just catching up on old threads.
There's a more complete transcription of the William stone at https://falkirklocalhistorysociety.files.wordpress.com/2021/05/slamannan-parish-churchyard.pdf (page38)
Which reads:
147.Obelisk. 440 x 50 x 50. (1) To/ the Memory of/ WILLIAM WOOD/
OF/ TOWNHEAD AND MOSSCASTLE/ WHO DIED AT GLEN=ELLRIGG/
AUGUST 21ST 1842/ AGED 54 YEARS./ ERECTED/ BY A FEW FRIENDS
IN/ SLAMANAN AND FALKIRK/ IN TOKEN OF RESPECT FOR/ HIM AS
AN UPRIGHT, A/ BENEVOLENT, AND A HUMANE MAN. (2) HERE ALSO
REPOSE/ THE ASHES OF/ MARY MAIN RELICT OF/ WILLIAM WOOD,/
OF MOSSCASTLE/ WHO DIED 28TH JULY 1854,/ AGED 54 YEARS. [on
side]. (3) W.HUME FALKIRK [on upper plinth]. [58].Flat. HERE LYES
THE DUST OF/ JAMES WOOD OF MOSSCASTLE/ WHO DIED 1774/
ALSO THE DUST OF/ SWASANNA WOOD/ HIS GRAND DAUGHTER/
Also JAMES WOOD AND/ SUSANNA ALISON/ HERE LYES THE DUST
OF/ JAMES WOOD SON OF JAMES WOOD/ AND SUSANNA WEIR.
Best i can follow is that William's father was James, as was his grandfather.
Side note: if the family stories here are to believed, Susana Reilly Wood may have been given a teacup and saucer from the family set. Her brother John Stainton Wood (my g-g-grandfather) was apparently given one as was each of the children as they set off on their own adventures. I heard it has a thistle on it, though I am unsure which of my father's cousins is in possession of it now.
