I have traced the entry in the registers of death for my great-great-grandfather. He was called Constantine Kelly and died in June 1890. His body was found floating in the river Clyde, North Side, near River St. His usual address is listed as Hamilton, although I suspect he hadn't been living at home for some time.
How can I find any newspaper report or other comment on this? I would be fascinated to learn any more about the incident.
Thank you!

Hi abiglasgow,
Searched the Scotsman Archives, no result for Constantine Kelly drowning at that date.
Sorry,
Tom

Hi Tom,
Thanks for trying. I suspect he may have been a bit of a nomad when he went in the river, he hadn't been seen for a few months so it could be the paper didn't bother to report it, or that they did but it was just an anonymous man.
Thanks for taking the time to look anyway.

Try contacting the Glasgow Humane Society: www.glasgowhumanesociety.org/
Don't know if they have records, but know they deal with drownings

Hi,
Constantine Kelly was my great grandfather. Another relative also drowned in the Union Canal in Birmingham? Constantine drowned 6 months after his son, also Constantine, was killed aged 14 in a mining accident.

Hi loulou2, seekthem. Thank you both for your replies!
I haven't done anything about genealogy for a while, but you may have kickstarted me back into it.
Louise, seems like we're related! I'm in Paisley, where much of the family settled. Whereabouts are you? I've not come across a Birmingham relative yet, but there are so many of them! All these large families ...
Best wishes
