hello to all,can anyone tell me anything about this caravan park-mobile home park queensferry in the 1970's and if anyone remembers anyone there???many thanks
-
Hi Steven,
Nobody else has replied so I'll have a go - this park was between the A494 Aston Hill and the (old) A550 Upperdale, it was supposed to be a site for the travelling community. I never knew anyone that lived there. Chris

hi chris 49,when you refer to the travelling community how do you mean?thanks steve
-
Hi Steve, I don't exactly mean the Romany community (though some of them may have lived there) but anyone not settled in one place, travelling round making a living. I don't know if it was then a Local Authority obligation to provide such places, but IIRC this was Flintshire's site. This was before the days of the larger (and more desirable) "park homes" you see nowadays. Chris

hi chris 49,what does the iirc mean?steve
-
Sorry, IIRC means "if I remember correctly". One of the acronyms used a lot in Usenet, forums, chats, blogs, text messages, etc. I suppose it was bad manners to use one here. Here's a couple of lists:
http://www.netlingo.com/emailsh.cfm or
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Internet_slang_phrases
including the rude ones, I'm afraid. Chris

Hi
The caravan park in Queensferry is a mobile home park, which is still there today. It's called Willow Park and to buy a mobile home there now, it costs a small fortune!!!
Back in the 1970's, it was a park with affordable mobile homes. It wasn't a camp for travellers....although, there is currently a travellers camp in Queensferry, I'm guessing it's not the place you're referring to as this has only opened in recent years.
I bought my first home on Willow Park back in the mid 80's!! I only lived there 18 months, before buying a house. So I never really got to know many of the other residents!
Willow park is now for the "over 50's". Mobile homes that are there are more like your average bungalow!! Very smart with nice gardens. It's come up in the world since I was there!!!!

Hi Steve
Yes, it's the park off Gladstone Way.
It's changed a LOT since the 70's though!!!

Hi Re Camp ...
It belonged to the local council and you payed a weekly rent for it ! it had no running water to the Caravans and no sewerage to them , every thing had to be taken to the site toilets and you had to carry every drop of water for eating and cleaning..this was 1960 and I did it for two yrs.
I and my husband lived in a 22ft Caravan with four children under 6yrs !now thats hard !! and it was a new Van as well
My two boys went to the Q ferry School,
it reminds me of Max Boyce *Dew its hard* .. Yet it was me complaining to the school when my son caught nits :)
Oh I forgot the dog and cat as well.no getting a council house in those days because you had kids
Bye the way we are still together 54yrs this 14th Nov 8)
The road was the Gladstone Way Hawarden Rd....
