Dec. 1885 - Mary Elizabeth married George Price, Birkenhead, Civil
Would appreciate receiving family information on this couple
in 1891 and 1901 censuses.
Thank you

hi English Daisy
the only Mary price with a husband George that I can see on the 1891 and 1901 census born Birkenhead. 1 is born 1847 on the 1891 census, and says born 1850 on the 1901 census for the same family

Hi Ricky
Thank you for taking time to look up census 1891 and 1901
for Sarah Price.
I wonder what happened to them? I know little about George Price.
I hope I do not have Sarah married to the wrong man. Ages
match. However, I thought she would have married in Church
of England, instead of a civil ceremony. Her mother, also a Sarah,
born in Malpas, Cheshire, died in Sept. 1874 and her father,
John, remarried to a Mary Ann (? surname), born in Isle of Man.
John died 1912 in Birkenhead.
I understand I posted this new subject on the wrong board.
Sorry about that!

Hi English Daisy
Is it a Mary Hayes or Sarah Hayes who married a George Price, ;D ;D as you asked for a Mary Hayes marrying a George Price in 1885 ??? ???, but now say a Sarah to a George , or is that a typo error
ricky ;)
-
Hi Ricky
It was Mary Elizabeth who married a George Price,
in Birkenhead, Civil, Dec. 1885.
John's first wife was born in Malpas and died early, in 1874.
They had two daughters, Mary Elizabeth and Sarah Jane, born
Birkenhead. (1871 Census)
John's second wife was from Isle of Man. They had
one daughter, Margaret, born in Birkenhead. Above two children,
Sarah Jane and Mary E. were not listed at home in this 1881 Census.
Sarah J. was working as a servant. Not sure where Mary E. was living.

Hi English Daisy
To be honest I carnt see a Mary or Mary E married to a George Price, are you 100% sure that she did marry this man, as there is nothing on the 1891/1901 about them except what I wrote at the begining of the thread
the only Mary price with a husband George that I can see on the 1891 and 1901 census born Birkenhead. 1 is born 1847 on the 1891 census, and says born 1850 on the 1901 census for the same family

Hi Ricky
I am not a 100 per cent sure, as I do not have a
marriage certificate to confirm it.
Oh well, maybe she will eventually show up!
Thank you very much
English Daisy
-
Hi English Daisy
Only way to confirm it would be the marriage cert, to be honest I carnt see them anywhere, and am wondering if she did marry a George Rice or did she marry someone else. There are plenty of Mary's and Mary E born Birkenhead 1964 ish on the 1891/1901 but not one is married to a George Price

Hi Ricky
That was a fast reply since this post had to travel half way around
the world!
On your last post you wrote George Rice, instead of George Price!
Are you sure you typed in Price when you were searching the
censuses! :-)

Hi English Daisy
I did put in Price for the search, my mistake on the above posting :-[ :-[

English Daisy.
Mary Elizabeth Hayes married George Price, Birkenhead Register Office, Civil Marriage in 1885.
Confirmed using Cheshire BMD
http://www.cheshirebmd.org.uk/
As well as Free BMD.
But like ricky1 I could not find the couple on the 1891 or 1901 Census. :(
-
Hi Gwerninion
I saw the marriage, but what I carnt understand , is where are they after the marriage, and is that the correct Mary Elizabeth Hayes. The only way to be sure if for English Daisy to get the mariage cert to see who her father was. If I remember correctly there are a few marriages for a Mary E Hayes or Mary Elizabeth Hayes after that date. Or did George die after he got married and she remmarried someone else in between the census's. All this is just guess work, but I carnt see a Mary born Birkenhead married to a George Price.

Hi Ricky
I agree, the only option is for English Daisy to obtain the marriage certificate.
Had it been a Church rather than civil ceremony, I would have gone and checked the entry myself at the RO :(
-
Hi Daisy
I have been trying to Fathom out where on the 1881 census you got your information, because i cant find it ;D One that was born in B/Head had the wrong parents and was born years before 1881. The only John(Born Deanrow) & Sara(born Macclesfield) Hays, with a daughter named Mary (no middle name)was Mary Hayes age 13 born Deanrow so born 1868 other sibling all born Deanrow Census was taken Bollin Fee (where that ::)

1871 census
John Hayes head mar 32 labourer Elton Green Cheshire
Sarah " wife mar 36 Malpas "
Mary Elizabeth Hayes dau u/m 7 Birkenhead "
Sarah Jane Hayes dau u/m 5 " "
living at 59 Morpeth Buildings, Birkenhead, Cheshire
Rg10/ 3746
folio 99

As already stated best bet is the marriage cert, to find out who the father was .

Hi Gwerninion, Ricky and Celia
I agree a marriage certificate is needed!
One other name on tombstone was a Catherine Jane Bartlet,
died Dec. 17th, 1897, age 41. I have not been able to find Catherine on
the Cheshire BMD and Free BMD websites.
Thank you for your help and interest.
Kind regards

Hi Ricky
Using my limited resources, I cannot find a birth date
for Catherine Jane, born about 1856.
Bartlett is probably her married name.
I have looked using a variety of family surnames,
but nothing looked like a match, so far.
She was the first person buried in the grave, so there
has to be a connection between her and John Hayes who
was the second person buried!
Another puzzle to be solved!

Hi English Daisy
There is a birth in Lancashire for a Catherine Jane Hayes
Catherine Jane Hayes
born 1857
Dec Quarter
West Derby
Lancs
vol 8b
page 340
This is only speculation , and it could have nothing to do with your family, just thought as it was Hayes who is buried in the same grave. Something to put on your back burner, might come in usefull

Hi Ricky
Yes, thank you, I will keep the record of your last post.
Who knows, it might very well turn out to be our Catherine Jane!

Hi Daisy
Glad you found them, how did you manage that, I used every means I could think of ??? ???
-
Glad to have helped :)
Using Ancestry I looked for Mary PRICE born Cheshire, then on census records I clicked 'view all results' and because she couldn't be found in England I tried the censuses for Wales, and there she was :)

To English Daisy
I notice that you were researching the Price family etc. and I'm doing the same. I am the great granddaughter of George Price and Mary Elizabeth Hayes. Are you a relation too?
