Hi
Could someone please look up Charles Rice on the 1841 census for Woolpit Suffolk, I am trying to find out if he had a son call Thomas.
I have received the death cert of one of Charles's other son's and expected to find the informant as the son's wife but it is not, it is Thomas Rice.
Thank you.

Hi William and Ricky,
I could be way out - but I thought the name of Charles's wife could be Eunice?
Kind regards,
Pels

There is only one Thomas RICE living in Woolpit. The entry shows that Thomas is female and aged 33.
I think it says Thamar (or Thursah) and she is ?wife of William also aged 33, an Ag lab.

Did Charles RICE leave a will? As a farmer you would have expected he had some land, crops etc to leave to his children.
-
Hi Bearkat
he might not have owned the land , he might have only been a tenant farmer. Most farmers only leased the land from rich landowners, I know where I come from the land as been owned by one family for about 300 years , but there used to be about 20 farmers on it , including one of my relies. Not saying he didnt leave a will though ;D ;D

Hi if you zoom in on the 1841 census it could possibly be eunice the spelling is not easy to make out, but it could be
-
I think it most likely is Eunice slimbo .. :)

Someone is researching the RICE family of Woolpit on the Stowmarket surname information exchange:

-
Hi Pels
I think your right, but the writing is rubbish :o :o, it sure as hell aint Emma ;)
-
Hi
On Charles's death cert which i have it says he was a carter?
Could this be a mistranscription ? and it should be farmer.
I have checked the will registry and there is not one.
I have also checked the free bmd site and there are no Thomas rice deaths in the stow area for years, ( i know he could have moved, but unlikely as they all stayed around the area ) but there is a death for a Thamar Rice June 1877 Stow s 4a 369.
Will Have to wait till i get payed to get cert as i have spent this moths cert money already.

The parish registers for Woolpit have been transcribed:
http://www.pbenyon1.plus.com/Den/Woolpit/Index.html
It shows Charles RICE married to Eunice/Unice.
-
Hi
Yes i have seen that as well, the problem is he dose not respond to e mails, i have sent him 2 so far and have now given up.
I have contacted the web site and all they can tell me is that he is still active on the site, which is no good to me.

Hi
Yes i have the woolpit transcript site as one of my fav's. it shows the marriage of Charles and Eunice also there first 2 children, Alas not William or Thomas.
As it is before civil registration i have to wait till i go to Suffolk to do the research.

Hi S M
Thank you for the reply, i have already made contact with them and exchanged info with them, they gave me a lot of stuff i already knew and some i did not.
But they where unable to help me with my Charles Rice, but gave me somemore of his siblings that i did not have including his sister Patience who they come down through.
If only i could be sure that the Charles Rice bapt in Elmswell on 25 December 1774 was the same Charles Rice that married Eunice Woolsey in 1802 in Woolpit and i could take the tree back further.
Thank you again.
William James
