For those who have not already noted it, here is one of Belle's previous threads about her SHUBART family.
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,213924.0.html
This particular thread gives the details of where BEATRIX fits into the family as the sister of someone she already has good information on.
Now, all we have to try to do is find her details as Mrs HAMILTON.
Belle,
Where did you discover the info. about Milkbars and Motels?
Any idea of places in Victoria?

Sue/sparrett,
Many thanks for alerting us to other threads - saves lots of duplication and wasted time.
If only RootsChatters seeking information would provide cross-references to other relevant threads, and summarise all the information they already have ...

Hi,
After my last thread on the Shubarts the grandson of Thomas Edgar Shubart got in touch,he came across my post after Goggling his mothers maiden name Shubart, daughter of Thomas, who is still alive, but does not use the computer. The infomation came from her, but that is all she knows, maybe Melbourne. Belle
My apologies for not pointing out the thread that had been done before,I was not intending to wast peoples time Jap,I will bear it in mind in future, consider my wrist slapped. :'(

Hi Belle,
Now, from memory the term "Motel" did not appear until the 1960's in Victoria and was a.... ''stop-over with car space[ MO ....for motoring?...] between destinations.
Meant to be convenient as an alternative to the local hotel.
Some of your other Shubart people were in Melbourne, so it is possible that the extended family all settled here.
There were some Motels in Melbourne, but more usually they were in country areas. and still are. Just some observations.
It must have been exciting to be contacted by the grandson.

Belle,
I too searched the Victorian Deaths CD - as had OzyBob and no doubt several other RootsChatters. But didn't get anything more. Though do note that it only goes up to 1985. I tried all people with surname, or father's name, or mother's maiden name SHUBART (and with variants and wildcards). Tried HAMILTON with various combinations of parents and various versions of Beat* or Trix*, etc, etc.
If you can tease out any further information from your relatives, it just might help.
As Sue says, that was a great result to be contacted by Thomas Edgar's grandson - one of the benefits of researching an uncommon name!

PS: Please understand that drawing attention to the need for provision of full information (especially information already held) and cross-referencing to other relevant threads, is definitely not a matter of wrist-slapping.
If a person who posts a query does this, it helps that person to get the best possible result.
It also leads to the best use of helpful RootsChatters' time (as you can see above, information which you already had has been looked up, typed out, and posted again by a helpful RootsChatter).

Hi.
Just been over the info that came via daughter of Thomas (very vague ) bearing in mind she was 2 in 1948 her father died 4 years later.
On arrival in Melbourne they stayed with Beatrix in a bunglow for a year then moved up country (her words),and more or less lost contact. She also says Beatrix did not have a husband at this time?. In 1948 Beatrix would have been 46.
She also says that she went into the Motel business with her son Ian and wife (no name) maybe it was her sons business, is it possible to find her sons (Ian) birth or marriage?
Could try and extract more info from Thomas's family but will take some time.
Yes it was a surprise to hear from a direct link to the Shubarts, also had photos of some of the siblings and one of g-grandfather and discovered another g-aunt.
Don't know if any of this helps ??? Belle

Hi LazyHorse,
Belle Here!!. Is your wife any relation to Lucas and Douglas?
Belle
-
Yes, Sister of both. I would love to see what information you have regarding the history of Thomas/ David.
Their Mother (whom I believe you have spoken with over the phone - but it would have been a couple of years ago) has some information, but I am yet to see it.
As far as I can tell there was a David Monaghan (b. 1872) who changed his name to Shubart for some reason. Looks like he may have been living with his grand parents in England (1881 Census).

Hi Shaun,
Nice to meet you,its funny but i have just come from another post on this site, someone with the same interest in the Shubarts, her name is Mary also from Australia any connection? any way I've copy and past the info from there to here hope it helps.
I do have B. M. D certificates and some Army records if that helps.
David H J is on the 1881 and 1891 census, the reason you haven't found him is....on the 1881 census he is living with his grandparents David and Jeannette Shubart and g-grandmother Mary Copeland and he is down as Monaghan not Shubart, his mother was Mary Sophia Shubart, born1850 in India, she married a James Monaghan in Devon 1866.
On the1891 census he is still living with grandparents but has changed from Monaghan to Shubart and his sister Rose ( Rosa) is also living there. At this time he has joined the Army aged 19. He made a career in the Army till he died in 1941 aged 68 Exminster Devon. He spent most of his life in India and he was born there March 8th 1872.
He married Elizabeth Annie Lee in 1892 in Devon, they had 6 children:Winfred Mary B/1894 Devon (my Grandmother) Eric Lee B/1895 India, Beatrix Victoria B/ 1897 India, David Stanley B/1898, Thomas Edgar B/1900 India, Shirin Jeanette B/ 1905 India.
This is just some of the info that i have let me know what you need and i will be happy to help,
Kind Regards Belle
