Title: Visiting Slamannan
Post by: Alwef on Saturday 15 September 07 09:43 BST (UK)
I'm coming up to Scotland next week and hoping to go to Slamannan where some of my Forrest family lived from the late 1800s to at least the 1930s.

A great uncle and aunt lived in the town and I want to find out whether they died there. Is there a cemetary for the area with records available to view?

I've posted a similar request for Whitburn on the West Lothian board.

There is a large churchyard and cemetery attached to the parish church in Slamannan. I suspect the records are probably in the Falkirk Council Archives at Callander House, Falkirk (can anyone confirm that?)

Hi Alwef,

The folowing is a link to a pdf document which contains specifically which records the Archives have.

http://www.falkirk.gov.uk/services/community/cultural_services/museums/archives/finding_aids/PDFs/cemeteries.pdf

I've had a quick look through it and it looks like they olny have quite recent records.

Why not post details of who you're looking and anyone with a copy of the pre-1855 MI books for Stirlingshire will probably jump in and try to help you out.

Alternatively, if the dates you're looking at fall between 1855 and the early 1960's, your best bet would bo to contact:

The above office deals with Slamannan.

Good Luck!

Anne
