Hi
I am very stuck with my husband's family who came from Kent. Caroline Frances Jenner was age 22 when she married Edward Percival Benson in 1888. Her father was called Thomas Little Jenner and he was a carman. I can only find them on the 1871 census where she is living in Southwark, London.
It says Caroline was age 5 and born in Middlesex but her father, Thomas, was born in Bredgar, Kent. Her mother, Matilda, was born in Herne. I can find no other trace of them in the census returns. I have done an IGI search and found a George Jenner & Mary Fisher with several children including a Thomas born 1839, all born in Bredgar. There is also a daughter Caroline and another called Frances which led me to believe that this was the right family but an IGI search for marriages shows a George Jenner married to a Mary Little in 1816 in Rochester and that makes me think is that Thomas's parents because his middle name is given as little.
Can anyone help? Would be really grateful
Debbie ???

Did the couple have other kids on that 1871 entry/

suspect that Matilda'a maiden name was whelan (jun 1840 freebmd entry) and 1861 census...
I can also see Matilda Jenner in 1901. Parish Of St George The Martyr Southwark, she appears to be a widow.

so that we can see just who you are considering, will you reproduce the IGI family for us to see?

Hi Debbie
Where did Caroline Frances marry? Is there an address for her on the certificate? Who were the witnesses?
Where were the family living at the time of the 1871 census and does it give a full birthplace for any of the children?
I think there is a Thomas LITTLE age 22 b.Bredgar in the 1861 census at Pancras (Middlesex/London) but I don't have the full details :-\
Does the marriage certificate of Caroline give her father's full name as Thomas Little JENNER?
I would be very wary of that IGI entry for Thomas JENNER 1839 Bredgar as it is an entry submitted by another researcher (like you or I) and not necessarily 100% correct ie. no mention of LITTLE so I think we need to try and find some other references to try and establish a little more about them.

HI
Caroline & Edward were married in the parish of Christ Church, Southwark, Surrey.
Caroline lived at 8 Isabelle Street and her father is given as Thomas Little Jenner, occupation carman.
The marriage was witnessed by Thomas Jenner and Cecilia Caroline Benson (who was Edward's sister)
I have since found Matilda Jenner on 1901 census she was a widow living in the parish of St Jude, Southwark, born Herne Village, Kent.
1871 census shows them in parish of St Saviour, Southwark 23 Jane Street
Thomas Jenner age 38, caramn, born Bredgar Kent
Matilda " " 29 " Herne, Kent
George T " " 7 scholar " Paddington, Middlesex
Caroline F " " 5 " " Clerkenwell, "
Rosetta " " 3 " ? Surrey
Henry W " " 11 months ? "

Thanks for your help
best wishes

Think youre going to have to get Thomas and Matildas marriage cert for Fathers names and occupations.
But only one i can find so far is below
Thomas Jenner to(on same page) a possible Matilda Fletcher in Qtr June 1868 West Ham vol 4a Page 53
If that is them they married after some of their children were born?

Hi Debbie
Well, Gaylor SWAIN must be a massive clue to the heritage of one of the parents - with a name like that he should be quite easy to trace back ;D
As an aside, I have also noticed a Henry William JENNER age 30 born Jane St, Blackfriars living in St George the Martyr, Southwark 1901 but don't have the full details. Was he living with Matilda? He must be Caroline's brother going by the 1871 census entry that you have.
Do you have the full details of this 1901 census entry? Do post them if you do - every little helps and it's so much easier to assist if we can see the whole picture :)
What about 1891? Working backwards will be a lot easier to try and fill in the gaps and, perhaps, learn another new clue or two along the way. If you don't have these entries (and nobody replies with them) then post a new request for each lookup giving names/ages/birthplaces or another census entry to help the looker-uppers.
Funny thing, we drove through Herne yesterday ;D

I have a George Jenner married Mary Fisher in my tree, George was chr 1792 at Bredgar Kent.
I have more information if this connects with your Jenners.
My line came to Australia with George and Mary's son William who married Anne Maria Wood.

How about this baptism?
Thomas JENNER baptised 28th April 1839 - parents George (wheelwright) and Mary, of Bredgar.

I do have this Thomas Jenner in my tree, his mother was Mary Fisher but that is all I have at this point as my direct line is William Jenner brother of George. George and Mary had 11 children that I have found and all were born in Bredgar.
