Title: Lancashire - Miles Platting Burial ground ?
Post by: Kress on Thursday 13 September 07 06:33 BST (UK)
Searching for a burial circa 1835.  Believe that William Gifford died in Miles Platting in 1835.   What is the name of the local church and did it have burials?  any help appreciated

Kress - you might find the graveyard by trawling the listings on the GENUKI pages for the area (Newton Heath included Miles Platting details)
http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/LAN/NewtonHeath/
The Manchester & Lancashire FHS have a listing of cemeteries in the general area at

Hi Kress

Looking at a map of 1893, St lukes did not have a church yard then. I think it was pulled down and replaced with the Corpus Christi Roman Catholic Church in varley Street in 1907.

The location of St Lukes is now a housing estate and not one you want to walk round with a camera in hand.

Many thanks to you all for the advice and help. Looking at Newton heath I think that perhaps All Saints might be  a good bet. Not sure how I can get burials though, as I live in Aus, any more help would be appreciated  Kress.

All Saints is a C0fE church

The Church and the Burial grounds have had all the headstones removed, in fact the burial ground is now a playing field.

Would suggest creating new posting and asking someone to check the registers at Manchester archives. Sorry I live just outside the city but avoid going in, so it could be months before I could find out for you.

My thanks to Ken for the list. I wonder if the local L.D.S. would have a film   Kress.
