Title: Re: 1841 Sussex Census Popes
Post by: KarenPope on Thursday 25 November 04 21:13 GMT (UK)
Hello Chris,
Thanks for the offer of a lookup - I'm a bit stuck with my Popes of Sussex!
I'm looking for a Samuel Pope and his wife Charlotte, who I believe to be in either Ewhurst (where they married in 1810, their first son, Sivyer, was born there in 1811), or Burwash (where their second son, Collin(s), was married in 1845, age 27).  Unfortunately I don't have much more information to go on, other than Samuel was originally from Kent (Faversham) and he was a weaver.
Any help you could offer would be very much appreciated.  I know the information I have is rather sketchy, so if this is too much of a tall order please do let me know!
many thanks
Karen Pope

Hi there Karen

I apologise for the long delay in answering your query, but have been off line for approx 5 months.

Have checked the 1841 census for Ewhurst - no POPES at all.

Have also checked the 1841 for Burwash where there are a number of entries for POPE (11 actually) but non that match your criteria.

Although I did find this one in Hurst Green

HO107/ 1108/ 6 - Hurst Green

POPE Sivyer, 25, Measure Master, born in Sussex

Hope that is of help to you

Chris

Hello Chris / Andrea,

Apologies that I haven't replied or thanked you for your research on my Pope family, I'm afraid I haven't been logged on for some time.

However, a big thank you!

Sivyer Pope was my GG Grandfather, he was in Hurst Green at the time, on his way to Maidstone where he spent the rest of his days.

Collins Pope was his brother, I don't know much about him so this info is much appreciated, I will also pass the information on to his ancestor who I am sharing my research findings with.

Thanks again,
Karen Pope
