Can anyone suggest what Catherine's surname is ?
I think the first 3 are William Stephens, Sarah Ann Williams, and William Payne.

hi Mackiwi
could it be Catherine Jenkin ???

I was just about to say Jenkins, although I did think the first letter was an F but I'll go with Jenkins.

Looks like FEAKIN to me - there are a number of entries on ancestry for this name in Northamptonshire.

Hi Mackiwi
when was the marriage ???
-
Hi All,
My you have been busy.
William Payne and Catherine !!!!! had Eliza somewhere in Kent she was 18 when she married in 1884 in Melbourne Australia.
I couldn't decide if the first letter was F T or L and if it was a second first name or the beginning of her surname.
Mackiwi :)

Looks like Feakins to me as well, although at my very first glance I thought the 'F' was an old fashioned 'S' ?

Hi Mackiwi.
have you found out more about Agnes Dudson.
I have that she was the daughter of Thomas Preece and Mary Ann Orchard (married 3Mar1858) . Her mother later married Willian Dudson (9Aug 1887).
William Dudson was my 2nd great grandfather
cheers

O you wonderful people. where would I be without Rootschat.(Up a creek without a paddle thats where).
Thank you all. My head is spinning at the speed the info is coming in, it was worth having 4 attempts to put that jolly image on line.
old col,
we must chat, you popped up out of the blue with what I thought was a dead end. Agnes Dudson was my Great Grandmother.
Mackiwi :) :) :)

Hi MacKiwi,
Agnes Dudson was born Agnes Preece born 16Jun1861 in Christchurch died 24dec 1908 in Wellington.
her Mother Mary Ann Orchard (b26Dec1824 Polesworth Warwickshire- d 1Nov1894 Kaiapoi) married 3 times?? . First to William Fairbrother and had Fanny Fairbrother Orchard and Maria Fairbrother Orchard, she then married Thomas Preece (issue you have) and then William Dudson (no issue).
her parents were William Orchard (b1788 Polesworth- d 5Apr1855 Polesworth) and Sarah Pearcy (b1792 Tamworth- d1863 in NZ)
Sarah, Mary Ann and Maria Orchard arrived in NZ as follows
Sailed London July 5th 1856 - arrived Lyttleton October 24th 1856
Orchard Sarah 65 Mary Anne 30 Maria 7. I dont know when Fanny arrived in NZ but both Maria and Fanny married in NZ.
please email me on email address removed by moderator - please use the secure Rootschat personal message system to exchange personal email addresses - thankyou and I will send all I have

Well there we go, Mamma marrying 3 times explains why I doubted what I was reading.
Have to say her daughter is rumored to have done the same. I know of 2 not sure of the 3rd.

Sorted through my search in Australia as Bentley rang a bell.
Yesterday I found Eliza Bentley Payne with a son born in Melbourne 1890 father Wm Stephens. I had crossed her off the list but perhaps a question mark would be more appropriate.
The rest of the children are just under Eliza Payne, although I haven't traced all of them yet as I have only checked as far as 1890 and there may have been births in NZ.
Still trying to sort my way through FreeBMD

Found Catherine Teakin supplied by Stephens family.
Thank you everyone for your help
Mackiwi :) :)
-
I think you mean Catherine FEAKIN Mackiwi ;)
Casalguidi :)
-
Hi Casalguidi
The Stephens family has it as Teakin along with photos.
Still confused.
Mackiwi :)
-
Hi Mackiwi
Well that certificate you posted definitely says FEAKIN and Catherine also married as FEAKIN(S) - as posted by another Rootschatter. I would have thought she knew her own name ;)
If you type TEAKIN into (as an example) http://freebmd.rootsweb.com there is only one entry whereas there are many entries for FEAKIN. I suspect that TEAKIN is a mistake and is probably an example of it having been misread/mistranscribed at some stage ;)

And they may have hit the T instead of the F when doing the tree.
Anyway whoever said Genealogy would be simple, that would take half the fun out of it.
Mackiwi :) :)

As an addition, and in case you hadn't already noticed, there are a couple of baptisms on the IGI which look interesting http://www.familysearch.org ie. Eliza PAINE 1865 Bicknor, Kent and Amy Beattey PAYNE at Borden, Kent 1874.
Casalguidi :)

Hi Casalguidi
Since my last posting I have received the Stephens, Payne, Feakins & Orchard family trees. Also have the link to Dudson sorted.
Big thank you to all who contributed to my request. :)
Now my focus is on Thomas Preece b. about 1828 who married Mary Ann Orchard.

Hi
I am following all your old threads. Catherine Feakins is my Great Great Grandmother yes I am a Payne. I have a pretty complete Taranaki family history that I have worked on over the years with my mother. LOts of photos of the Feakins around 1900 too.
Cheers

Hi Brett,
I'v just checked this link for the first time in ages, are you still interested in exchanging info.
Mackiwi
-
HI,
Yes I am always interested. I see you have most of ............. stuff. I originally discovered ........... on MyHeritage and he expanded a few horizons for me. Since then I have been adding more materials and family as I find them in my own searches. I also have a collection of old family photos that I am progressively including.
Your discussion on Sarah Bentley has helped me resolve that little mystery as my mother has a copy of Williams Death Cert that had us blocked by the Alcock name. I also switched from searching for "Payne" to searching for "Payn" and have then now back as far as 1750 in and around Sheppey. Other links I found go further back on maternal sides well into the 1600's but with many questions as to how accurate some of the data is. But I think my names are as solid as can be back to 1750 on the Payne side.
I descend from George Bentley Payne (William's son) who died in 1959. My dad was able to recall older cousins talking about "Shaky Grandad" which was William. My Dad was born in 1934 and died in 1992 and was the youngest of 4 sons of Peter John Payne (1901 - 1955) and Ivy Violet Muir (1906 - 1983).
Regards
Brett
