Well Now Finch On seeing from 1871 census that Jane does appear to come from Wiveliscombe also I had another go at 1851 census....Unfortunately there r just no Godferys in Wiveliscombe in 1851...I just looked for a jane around the right age and sadly as expected there r heaps of them but none with a name even remotely resembling Godfrey :'( Looked for a marriage in Wellington district (Wiveliscombe comes under that) and there r none listed for the right period....Sorry ....Kris :'(

Thanks so much Kris, this looks like the family, I have something to work on now.

Hi - I wonder if anyone who followed this conversation has details of my possible 4 great grandfather John Vickery born about 1762 married a Jane Owen in 1789 and lived in Milverton which is very close to Wiveliscombe. It looks like one of his sons John born 1794 married an Elizabeth who I am confident were my 3 great grandparents. I see that there were a lot of Vickerys (some with various phonetic spellings) in Wiveliscombe and am wondering if John 1762 came from there.
Thanks to anyone who might have info.

Welcome to Rootschat Peter.
FreeREG has the 1789 Marriage and John VICARY is described as a Sojourner (temporary resident) on it.
Now I did notice a THOMAS/BETTY Vic* Baptising Children in Milverton at the same time as JOHN/JANE with the same names;'
EG;
JAMES, 25 April 1790 to John/Jane VICKRY
JAMES, 17 Apr 1791 to Thomas/Betty VICKRY
SARAH, 29 Oct 1797 to Thomas.Betty VICKRY
SARAH, 2 Dec 1798 to John/Jane VICARY
JOHN/JANE had James 1790/John 1794/Isaac 1796/Sarah 1798/George 1803/ Mary 1804/Ann 1806/Harriet 1807/Robert 1810
THOMAS/BETTY had Mary 1784/Betty 1786/James 1791/James 1792/Sarah 1797/ John 1801 and a Hannah 1788, Baptised 1807
On Marys Baptism their abode was Wiveliscombe*
As you say John was buried 1844 age 82 (birth c 1762)
Thomas 1802 age 40 (Birth c 1762)
Possible Thomas Baptised Milverton 1760 to JOHN/MARY
Another Child of theirs was James 1756
Although I think it is possible John/Thomas were Siblings I cant prove it as such.

Thanks Trish - I will have to hunt around and see if I can find my John Vickery (or other spellings) born 1762 ish. There seem to be quite a few in Vickerys in Somerset and most seem to be called John James William or Thomas and the ladies Elizabeth, Ann, Mary and Jane. I find it amazing that in some of these small villages there are so many Vickerys. I went to a huge school in London and my brother and I were the only ones with the name.
