Title: Where was Mary McKenna/Yenck??
Post by: Tees on Monday 03 September 07 23:20 BST (UK)
Hi!

Wondering if you could kindly locate this Mary McKenna in 1900 US Census? From 1910 onwards, she was a Yenck and married to a Francis A.

Her marriage record showed that the couple married in Pana, Christian, Illinois.

Would appreciate any information on her and if there is any siblings living with her.

Also, how old she was and where she was born? When did she emigrate to this US?

Thanks!

Tees

Hmmmm......this could be her in 1900 but really no way to be certain and there are no other McKenna's with her.

Mary McKenna  Chicago Ward 34, Cook County, Illinois. born Scotland, parents born Ireland,  Boarder, age 26, born May 1876, employed as a saleswoman.

Sorry but no immigration info on the 1900......and it's left off her 1910 particulars!  By 1920 Frank is a widower but the girls are then stating their mother was born Ireland.

Not much help...

Jean

Hi JustJean!

That's brilliant finding!!

Now it seems that the McKenna children were born in Ireland, not Scotland.

May I have 1910 and 1920 details on Mary Yenck and her family?

Wee question for you re: 1900 Census--see any Jordan in the same residence as Mary McKenna was living at?

Thank you so much for tying up some loose ties on this branch!  ;D

Kind regards,

Tees

Hi Jean!!

A BIG THANKS goes to you!!! I recently located Mary McKenna's birth entry on Scotlandspeople--indeed, she was born in Scotland in May 1875 (just a year earlier than the stated year on 1900 Census).

It tied in nicely with other documents I found but was not sure if I have the right ones. :)

Bless you for your help with the 1900 Census! Looking forward to the details on other censuses.

Poor children losing their mother--just like did she with her father.

Kind regards,

Tees

Mary McKenna Yenck is the sister of my gr-grandfather, Thomas McKenna.  Her parents were Mary Jordan McKenna and Francis McKenna.  Francis drowned in Scotland on January 1, 1886.

The family (Mary, her mother and three of her siblings) arrived in New York on October 14, 1886 on the steamship The State of Nevada.  They settled in Pana, Illinois.

Mary McKenna Yenck died in childbirth somewhere in the 1912 - 1913 time period.  She had two older children (Mary Helen and Francis) who lived to adulthood.
