My father was sent to India enroute for Burma in 1944. I believe he arrived in Bombay by troopship and then on to Madras where he spent most of his time.
I have a receipt issued for his greatcoat, undated and unsigned which bears the following:
Unit: No.2 KOHIMA CAMP. TG (or TC) KALVAN
I am aware of the battle of Kohima in Burma but my father never went to Burma.
Can anyone explain the reference to Kohima, please. Does the TG (maybe TC) mean Training Ground/Camp at a place called Kalvan in India where troops were being prepared for going to Kohima?

if your dad got to India in 1944, I would suggest that he was perhaps already too late for Kohima. By the time he wouild have processed through the system, Kohima may well have finished as it was over by 22 june but started in mid March as the Japanese crossed the Chindwin then and advanced on Kohima by 4th April. Before this Kohima was a leave camp and no doubt after it would have served as a staging camp. Kohima was in India
