Anyone recognise the badge on the glengarry? Appears to have a dark rosette around it.
Top right is my great grandfather David Barrie b1884 Kirriemuir d1924 Dundee.
Photo is a postcard with no identifying marks on it at all.
thanks

It could be the Cameronians (Scottish Rifles). Also there is a David Barrie in the 9th Battalion Scottish Rifles, on the medal index cards at the NA Kew.

Hi :)
Your man is Highland Light Infantry (HLI).

Hi Bronwyn :)
Here's a link to 2 soldiers called David Barrie on the medal index cards who served with the HLI. You will likely get both men (plus another four soldiers, 6 men altogether) if you download the top named on the link below, at a cost of £3.50.

Below are the cap badges of both the Cameronians (left) and the HLI cap badges.
The Cameronians (Scottish Rifles) had a Mullet, over a stringed bugle, surrounded by thistles. It was a large cap badge and was very distinctive. Additionally, you would expect to see black buttons on a rifle regiment.
The HLI, had a small cap badge similar in style to the Royal Scots.

Sorry it is the HLI, I was looking at the wrong site.

Thanks for your replies
I'll wait and see if he turns up on the pension records that are being released.
Great granddad returned from the war in one piece only to be blown up in a quarrying accident in 1924 :(

Hi Bronwyn
Sad to hear of David's accident. Hope you find out more on him as a soldier. :'(
