My 2G Grandparents James Flynn & Mary Murphy were married in Dawgreen Dewsbury in 1864. The marriage cert and census show Marys parents to be Edward and Julia Murphy all from Ireland. The marriage cert shows James's father also to be Edward and a stone masons labourer. There is a JF Masons Labourer in Huddersfield at the time but so far we have no concrete link between him and James (although geography doesn't seem unreasonable ?).
I would be grateful for any information or advice on the following:
1. Was Dawgreen a particular area of Irish population,
2. Mary was a Rag Sorter in the mill. Was there a specific mill in Dawgreen at that time and is there a written history of that we could find.
3. Is there any record of the arrival Irish settlers in the area we believe they arrived between 1851 -1860
4. Any thoughts on firming up the link between James and Huddersfield Edward.
Thanks in advance for any replies.

Hi,
1. Was Dawgreen a particular area of Irish population,
....Yes - and still is. There is a big Irish National Club & Rugby Club in West Town. The Catholic Church of St Paulinus also seems to be thriving - nightmare on a Sunday morning because they park all over the place!
2. Mary was a Rag Sorter in the mill. Was there a specific mill in Dawgreen at that time and is there a written history of that we could find.
....There were (and there are still some left) plenty of Rag Mills within a radius of a few miles - Dewsbury/Batley was/is known as the Heavy Woollen District. Best shot would be a Trade Directory..
3. Is there any record of the arrival Irish settlers in the area we believe they arrived between 1851 -1860
..Try Huddersfield & District FHS, you might be lucky.
4. Any thoughts on firming up the link between James and Huddersfield Edward.
It is very possible.... there was a huge influx of Irish in to Huddersfield at the time. My other halfs G/G-Grandfather arrived in HUddersfield late 1870's. Just take a look in the census to see what I mean..
