both would be from Kenninghall, Norfolk.
I think they are brothers.
This is what I have on James Revett:
James Revett: b 1806, Kenninghall, Norfolk. Father was James Rivett b.1778, Kenninghall. Mother was Abilgail Knight b.abt 1778, in Kenninghall. Information verified by an old family history entry. The name changed its spelling to Revett when James apparantly emmigrated to America about 1824. His children were American born: Abilgail, Matilda, Elizabeth Jane, James, George, John, Thomas, Joseph, Mineva...all Revetts by now. His wife was Sarah Haskins/1815 in New York or Pennsylvania.
This is what I have on John Rivett. Born 1813, Kenninghall, Norfolk. Married first to a Susan Nash/1812, then to a Frances/Fanny Hudson (Machin)/b1829 in Holme Hale. Children: Sarah Ann/1837, Elizabeth/1839, John/1845, James/1847, Thomas/1850, Robert/1852...then, Susanah/1857, Mary Jane/1859, Elizabeth/1862.
Looking to try to link these two up using the 41 or 51 census, and whatever sources available. Would like to confirm this somehow or another.
Thanks
Mike

I assume you have access to the census records? If not, let us know.
I've had a look at the census records, and there are are lot of Revetts/Rivetts in the area, and fitting them together is a bit of a puzzle.
I had a similar problem. In the end I wrote out what I knew to be true from the census data (I ignored family stories!), and then cut up each group and set them out on a large table. I managed to fit quite a few together like a jig-saw.

I do not have access to census data, other than the library.
The connection became known to me via Ellis Island records which indicated that an immigrant in the line of John Rivett was heading for his cousins home in Butler City, Indiana, which is where the James Revett family was located.
Thanks
I agree, it seems that I will have to sort out all the Rivetts of one particular generation (from Kenninghall) and fit them all together.

Right - what can we find?
1851 Census: HO 107/1822/37 Kenninghall
Lodge Farm: James b. c1811, New Buckenham (Ag Lab)
Mary Ann, b. c1815, Crimplesham
James, b. c1838, N Lopham (Farmers Boy)
There's also a William Revett b. c 1831 Kenninghall in Chatham Barracks.

I can verify your John Rivett. He was a policeman!
In 1851 he was living with his father, James b.1778 Kenninghall. He is a farmer of 6 acres of land.

As of right now, I think the first thing to check would be for the parents of John Rivett b.1813 in Kenninghall.
I say this because it is already established that the parents of James Revett b.1806 as being James Rivett (1778) and Abigail Knight/Knights.

AHA! :)
In 1841 HO/107/775/7/25 Kenninghall:
James Rivett, b. c1781 (ag lab)
Abigail, b. c1798
Elizabeth, b. c1821
Joseph, b. c1826 (ag Lab)
Theodocia (!) b. c1836
So I think the unusual name of Abigail links them, although the names are spelled differently.

..................................................................................
Great, thanks for that.
Now if only it could be shown that this James Rivett with 6 acres of land was that same James that was married to Abigail Knight/Knights (James Rivett's father).

You can do this by accessing the parish records. Your local LDS Family history centre can get their hands on the microfilm for you to read.
Unless you are very lucky and someone has transcribed them...?

meles,
Someone has posted this message on a Norfolk message board about James 1806 sisters, if I read it correctly
I would have to consider these sister's relationship to James as unverified.
"James Rivet b.1806 from Kenninghall, Norfolk, England left and came to Canada. He then went to New York State and married. His father was James Rivet and his mother was Abigail Knights. He had two sisters, Matilda b. 1808 and Sophia b. 1838. His line in the United States has been extensively researched. Looking for others related in England or any knowledge."
