Title: Ethel Jackson/Arthur Kenyon
Post by: decco on Monday 27 August 07 20:42 BST (UK)
Hi

Could anyone help? I'm tyring to find any details on  my great aunt Ethel Jackson. I believe she was born in 1906 in prescot and then as soon as she was ol enough devoted her life as maid to a Miss Sidebottom in Milner roads st. Annes. She married an Arthur Kenyon when she was 68years old. He was an egyptian cotton trader. There were no children so her line stops.

I would appreciate any info/help.

Thanks

Decco

Hi

Are you researching her ancestry or looking for info about her life with Miss Sidebottom/Arthur Kenyon

If you are researching her ancestry, unless you already know her parents names etc, a good starting point is a copy of her birth cert

This is possibly her birth registration

There is no Jackson/Kenyon marriage on the GRO index between 1973-1975 inclusive

Hi

Thanks, researching both really. As family don't know what happened to her. I know her parents were Joseph Jackson and Phylis mitchinson, but the most recent census is 1901 isn't it?? so couldn't find her.

Hi

Her parents married in 1898
Phyllis Mitchinson /Joseph Jackson September quarter 1898
Warrington (Cheshire) Volume: 8c  Page: 224

Phyllis was born about 1878 in Maryport Cumberland and Joseph about 1878 in Prescot

In 1901 they were living at 72 Station Rd Haydock and had a son Rudolph aged 1 who was born in St Helens

Births Mar 1900

Jackson  Rudolph    Prescot  8b 836

If you look at the 1881 census which is free at www.familysearch.org you will find Phyllis with her parents and grandparents

This is the marriage of Phyllis's parents

Marriages Mar 1877

Frances Lawson Hinds/ Joseph Mitchinson   Cockermouth  10b 689

Joseph is proving a bit more difficult as I can't find one b specifically in Prescot in either 1881 or 1891

Hi

Thanks so much for your help with this troublesome lot. I have left it alone for a while as I couldn't focus on anything.

So back to it again now.

Having read your notes again, the Rudolph bit seems odd still. The relatives that were alive until recently didn't ever remember a Rudolph. But this is odd because when I tried to look up my grandad I came across Joseph and Phyllis parents of Rudolph too.  There are several Joseph Jacksons which makes it all confussing.

So as you have found the same info I guess I was going in the right direction.

Could I kindly ask if you would be able to look up who you think the parents are of Joseph Jackson incase I have this wrong.

i have Richard Jackson b. 1844 Oldham married Betty Heap 1868 b.1849.

Thanks
x

The 1901 shows Joseph as born in Prescot.

There is an 1881 entry for a Joseph Jackson b 1877 parents Richard & Betty.  However - that Joseph was b Milnrow and was living in Butterworth in 1881 - www.familysearch.org

I think you need to buy a copy of the marriage cert to establish the name of Joseph's father as it is very easy to go down the wrong path with a surname like Jackson

I have just had another look at the 1901 entry and living as a separate household but at the same address is a Henry Jackson aged 27 also born Prescot and he has exactly the same occupation as Joseph - checker - timber haulage
