Title: Elizabeth COYLE (formerly Lowther)
Post by: Printer on Sunday 26 August 07 07:25 BST (UK)
Hi,

I am trying to find any details of the first husband of Elizabeth Coyle (nee Wanless) formerly Lowther.  In 1881 Census Elizabeth Coyle is living at 48 Middle Row, Longbenton with husband Luke and  four children: John Lowther (b 1862), Margaret Lowther (b 1868), Robert W Lowther (b 1875) and Ellen Coyle (b 1880).

I have found two marriages in 1878: in Mar (Q) (Morpeth) and Sept (Q) (Tynemouth)  for an Elizabeth Lowther and a Luke Coyle.

Would someone kindly have a look in 1861/1871 Census for the Lowther family please. Thankyou.

Printer,

A wee admin snippet that might help !

As you say on C1881 they lived in Longbenton*. The four children were recorded as born in Longbenton*

Births, deaths and marriages happening in Longbenton*, were registered with the Registration District of Tynemouth

( Morpeth Reg District lying to the north of Longbenton, covered communities including Morpeth, Ashington, Bedlington etc)
-------------------------------------------------------------------

* Longbenton...

On C1881 they actually lived in mining village called Dudley Colliery, which lay within the "township" of Weetslade, which lay within the wider area of the Parish of Longbenton.

Ellen Coyle's birth was registered with Tynemouth RD in Dec Qtr of 1879
-------------------------------------------------------------------------

I cannot see a good candidate for Elizabeth Wanless/Lowther on C1871.

Is it possible that Elizabeth Wanless married someone before she married a Lowther ?

Hello Michael,

Thankyou for clarifying the Registration Districts. I do get a bit confused with this area!

Although you were unable to find an Elizabeth (nee Wanless) Lowther in 1871, are you able to assist with the children John Lowther (b 1862) and Margaret Lowther  (b 1868) in 1871 Census?

As far as I know Elizabeth's first marriage was to a Lowther. In IGI have found a marriage for Luke Coyle and Elizabeth Lowther on 19 Jan 1878 Morpeth. Thankyou.
