HELP!
Who were the parents of Margaret Merry who married William Howie on the 27th Aug 1813 in Mauchline Ayrshire? I have some possibles can anyone help me narrow them down.As I can't find the deaths of Margaret or William I'm unsure of their ages. I assume that William died in Glasgow about 1844-50 as the last entry for him in GPD is 1844-45. He was a Cabinetmaker and Funeral Undertaker.
William and Margaret had one child that I know about JAMES,ch 7th Mar 1819, Abbey, Paisley, Renfrewshire.

Merryhow,
Have you tried viewing the original Old Parish Record (OPR) image for Margaret and William's marriage on ScotlandsPeople? Most of the time the record will tell you if both persons were of the parish and sometimes it will even tell you the name of the bride's father. It's worth a shot, in my opinion.
There's a few births/christenings for a Margaret Merry/Merrie around Ayrshire, but can't be sure if one of them is your's.

Tried that. William is "of Glasgow" but was he born there. Why did he go all the way to Mauchline for a bride? were the families related? I Know Ayrshire is Howie country.
In Glasgow I can only find 1 possible William b.7th Oct 1792 to James Howie and Jean Black.
Margaret Merry I think came from Mauchline and I'm inclined to think she is the one born 1789 to James Merry. A contact from Australia tells me the Margaret born to John Merry in 1792 married a McGavin and is in their tree.
As I've only found one child from this marriage (born 51/2 years after the marriage) I looked for Margaret's death starting in 1819. No luck so far!
Were this family to busy burying other folk!
Thanks for your help and please keep the ideas coming

I Have a Margaret Merry on my family tree. My GGG Grandfather William McGavin married three times, his third wife was Margaret and they lived at The Haugh in Mauchline. They had five children some of which emigrated to Australia. They were married in 1824. I'm a descendant from Williams first wife Jean McCrone. I've been in contact with some descendants of this Margaret Merry who might be able to give you more information
Hope this is of some help.
Regards
Ellen

Hi Ellen, thanks for your reply. I think your Margaret Merry may be a cousin to mine. James Merry had a daughter Margaret in 1789 and John Merry had a daughter Margaret in 1792. A contact in Australia tells me that Johns daughter is the one who married William McGavin. Wish I could prove this!
I have Margaret's marriage to William Howie 1813 in Mauchline and the birth of a son James 1819 Paisley. I also know that William was in Glasgow from at least 1828 until the mid 1840s. My problem is I can't find/confirm their births or deaths.
If you come across anything that might help please let me know.
Thanks again
Val
