Would some kind person Please look up for me On Scots Census 1871 1881
1891
William Johnston/e b 1840 at Minnigaff.
Found on 1861 Census as being age 20 apprentice blacksmith. Cannot find any trace of him after that.
ANY help greatly appreciated in finding this man and his family.

I checked the 1871 census for that name and area. There was only one listed but his job was listed as a ploughman and he was 45 years old. Too old for your person. I ran a check for all of Kirkcudbright and there were 60 listed but I didn't find one with in the correct age range. There was nothing in the 1881 census I check both Johnston and Johnson but nothing.

Hi Jody :)
It's not surprising that you didn't 'find him, a few of us have been searching for him for EC for months on a number of threads :(

I can understand the frustration, I have both the names of my two ancestors parents, but still I can't find my ancestors birth records in the oprs. Nor can I find a marriage of my gggrandmother in Scotland or the US. Sites like Scotland People are great when you can find what you are looking for but I know they don't have all the records. I was in Scotland in 1994 and found opr records, ( I have the copies) that don't appear in Scotland People online. No one in Scotland told me how that could be.
This past month I was in Edinburgh using the virtual library for kirk session records and here was one parish I couldn't find the CH# for, nor could the person there to help. They were so sure I had the name wrong but I didn't. Sometimes it is a crap shoot.

The reason that I've been given is that the originals were not good enough to digitise. Also some have been lost/destroyed, etc :-\ There are a whole lot missing for Kirkmabreck that I need and Parton :(

Have you thought to look in the church session records? I found in the Anwoth kirk session records the entire listing of my family's baptisimal records, which listed the partents, dates when born and when christened. It was a unique find and I am pretty sure not all parish did that but it might be worth checking out if you have access to them for your parish.

I think I suggested that on another thread, Jody. I found info on some of mine that way but not the info that I need on the others. I think Eccles might not be able to get to Edinburgh very easily :-\
