Hello
I don't know if this is the right place to post this.
Someone has sent me this and wondered if anyone could tell me what it says.
I am trying to read the names before where it says name of Mobberley.
Sorry but its the best copy i have.

Looks as if it might be:
"certificate of Baptism made for a man of the name of Mobberley [ Ismail? Samuel? ] Royston"
Not sure the bit after Mobberly is his name - could be where he is from? Is this a note in the parish register?
-
Hi
Thanks but the name of the person was William, on all census he says he was born born Ryston.
This is part of his discharge papers.

Hi,
I read it as " Certificate of Baptism used for a share of the name of Mobberley born at Royston. Maybe wrong but?
RobPhill.

Perhaps ...
Certificate of Baptism inside(?)
for a man(?) of the name of Mobberly
{an}d
{bo}rn at Royston.

Hi
Thanks for the replies.
Could it say Clara or Sara Shaw?

This is quite an old thread so I wonder, kd, whether you have obtained further information since last you posted
on the thread (25 Aug 2007)?
If not, I'd just say a few things:
1. I'd stick to my earlier interpretation slightly refined.
As follows:
Certificate of Baptism inside
{f}or a man of the name of Mobberl(e)y
{bo}rn at Royston
2. In the 1841 census (in Worcestershire), William's entry has "Yes" i.e. born in the County.
Of course that might well be a mistake.
Incidentally, I believe that the entry for Eleanor was initially 'F' (foreign) but that it has been overwritten
with 'I' (Ireland).
3. In the 1851 census, William's entry has his birthplace as "Ryston" (sic) without any County being specified
(and I think it says 'Nr Blind' in the final column).
4. In the 1861 census, William's entry has his birthplace as "Middlesex Riston" (sic).

Hello kd,
Thanks for the message closing out this thread :)
I take it that William was discharged ca 1821 - noting that William was 'sick' in 1821 and noting that Thomas was
bap in 1821 in Old Swinford, Worcestershire.
From all the other threads, one does wonder why almost everything happened in Old Swinford, Worcestershire apart
from William's birth/baptism in Royston, Hertfordshire ...

Hi Jap
William is a mystery all of his siblings were christened in Oldswinford, doubt i will ever find out why his parents went to Hertfordshire and only had one child.
Thanks for the help.

Hi kd,
Have you found the marriage of William's parents? Perhaps his mother came from Royston. Though
the 1769 marriage of Edward MOBERLEY (sic) & Elizabeth HOLLOWAY in Old Swinford looks likely.
Noting that William's baptism was found on the Hertfordshire board (in a parish register) I checked out
the relevant Royston batch in the IGI. Did you notice that William's baptism is in the IGI - but is
entered there as MABBERLEY.
William MABBERLEY bap 12 May 1782, Royston Hertford England, parents Edward MABBERLEY & Elizth.

Hi JAP
Yes i have got the marriage for Edward and Elizabeth thank you.
The Mobberleys did come from Lye and alot were either married christened or buried at Oldswinford.
I have Oldswinford Parish registers.
With the kindest fo help from different people i have traced them back to 1580.
I hadn't noticed Williams baptism on IGI thank you for that.
As i said i doubt i will ever know the reason why William would be born there.
My line seems to be the poor side of the family, some of the Mobberleys went on to be part of the Mobberley and Perry Brick manufacturers.
Thank you for taking the interest in them for me.

Hi kd, I also have Mobberleys from Old Swinford, from Wm born about 1745 who married Ann Foley. I don't have Edward, but I may have missed him somewhere unless he is in another line. I found a tomb at Old Swinford St Mary's last week, with the names of Richard Mobberley died 1874 aged 16 son of William and Elizabeth, also Thomas died 1915 aged 81, his wife Martha and their children. I've not had time to work out who they are as yet.

Hi Linell
The Willaim Mobberley who married Anne Foley was born about 1738 and they had 8 children that i know to. They were married 22 Aug 1762 at St Thomas Dudley. His parents were William born about 1711 and Hannah Lane born about 1706.
William had brother Samuel (1705) who had a son Edward. This is who i am descended from.
William and Samuels parents were William Mobberley and Sarah Skelding.
Please pm me if you need any further information.

I had Wm and Ann Foley, then Samuel and Nancy or Ann Wooldridge, their son William Married an Ann, their son John 1824 Married Maria Perry, his brother Richard 1835 Married Elizabeth Sarah Mobberley daughter of Thomas Mobberley 1799 and Mary Ann Stanley. The tree goes on down to Thomas and Martha who's Grave I found. Will get back to you if I need anything else. I also have some Harts from Lye. Many thanks.
