Title: WEBSTER - Gorleston
Post by: spanishlady on Wednesday 22 August 07 16:25 BST (UK)
I know Frances Webster married June 1865 to Philip James Reynolds in Yarmouth.  On all the census forms she says born about 1843 in Gorleston, Suffolk, as was her brother Thomas Webster.  I cannot find her birth or who her parents were.  I also cannot find P J Reynolds who seems to come from Middlesex, London, he was a fishman.    Can anyone help please.

I wonder if she's the FANNY Webster - c1845 (parents James and Mary) in the 1861 census of Gorleston

1861 - RG9/1189; Folio: 106; Page: 37
Tee House Lane

Father James is also a Fisherman.

I note that Thomas c1842 is a Seaman, away on a vessel ...

The family are there in 1851, as is Fanny.

Thomas isnt - theres a lad in Bungay, a pupil at a Latin, French & Music scholl, but born Beccles.

So how have you established that Fran and Tho are siblings ?

You really need the Marriage Cert to pin this down - with Father's names ....

Quess work.  In 1861 both Philip Reynolds and Thomas Webster were on a fishing boat together.  It says Thomas Webster was from Gorleston and Philip married Frances Webster from Gorleston, so assume that is how Philip met her through Thomas.

Sorry I did not realise that it was only you that answered my queries as this is the first time I have posted anything.   Thanks very much.

Hi, one of my family Joseph Bentley was also born in Middlesex and worked on the drifter fleet out of Barking. In the 1870's (need to check exactly), the fleet moved to gorleston/yarmouth as the cost of operating from the london port area became very high, and many of the crews stayed with the fleet. This probably was how Philip came to Gorleston.

Thanks very much I have now found Philip´s marriage and sent for his certificate and on it was his father and found out where Philip comes from in London but I still cannot find his birth.  I am trawling through lots of things on the net but have not yet found his birth although it says London Borough Stepney.

the 1841 census shows a 10 year old Philip Reynolds as being a pupil at Bancroft's Hospital, Stepney, Mile End Old Town, Tower Hamlets, Middlesex. No other Reynolds are listed for this address. The only other Middlesex listing was for a Phillip aged 5 in Marylebone. Hope this helps. TJ

Thanks I did not have that info about the hospital but I did have Philip Reynolds born in 1832 and obvious he died in hospital.
They had another Philip as shown in the 1851 census aged 11 born in Borough Southwark.
