Has any one any photograph or information on the Gate Inn which in the 1891 census was shown as being in Inley Drove Sutton St James Lincolnshire. My great grandfather was the Inn Keeper.

Looking at the census, there only appears to be one place called Inley Grove. It is a very rare thing on Google.
I suggest you go to this page ... at the bottom is the e-mail address of the person who seems to live at Inley Grove Farm; perhaps you could contact her. http://antiquity.ac.uk/projgall/lillie/index.html
As she is "into" archaeology, she may have something about the place.

The Gate Inn has been demolished and a 3 Bed detached house built on its site still called "The Gate".
It is on the corner of Inley Drove and New Fendyke Road,Wrights Fendyke Farm is the next property on opposite side of road.
Inley Drove Farm is abt a 100 yards down Inley Drove,Inley Drove cuts between New Fendyke Road & Old Fendyke Road.
See OS Map Landranger 131 for Boston & Spalding,OS ref 171380,a building is marked but not named abt 300 yards from Leeds Bridge

The last hanging Pub sign is preserved along with some photos of the Inn at Elgoods Brewery Museum who also alledgely have some written records of same

Thanks Baron 59, I will now see what I can find out from Elgoods.
If you are local I have one other mystery I am trying to solve - Clifton Bridge - do you happen to know how this came to be so named ?
