Title: Help to knock down this brick wall - Parker to Tilburn UPdated below
Post by: winston on Thursday 16 December 04 14:56 GMT (UK)
Hi All

I don't have much info to give as I have only got the names from a birth certificate.

The marriage is between Fred/Frederick Parker and /Elizabeth Tilburn.

This is the brick wall; I don't know when, where or old they'd be.  All I know is, their  son who is Fred Parker was born in MYTON Kingston upon HUll in 1906 December.  It his his birth cert that I got the parents names from.

On the birth cert it states his dad is a Bricklayer Journeyman.  I know form Fred (juniors) war papers that both his parenst had passed away before 1926 as he gives his grandma Mrs Tilburn as his next of kin.

I know this is one wall that could stay up until the release of the 1911 census.

Sorry no other info is known - I only found this much out after a nine month wait for his papers to be found and sent on to me.

I do appreciate how hard this is.

Hi Wendy

Do you have an actual address on the birth certificate?

Is there an address for the grandmother on the WW1 papers?

Best wishes

Dear Wendy

I saw your request for help so I though I would tune into my witich's sense while sitting in my typist chair, i have left the broomstick nearby for safety.     I sense you need to look in Devon and Cornwall for the name parker and fred maybe be listed under another name in another area....     hope this helps.

You need to look for the marriage on 1837online.  Since Tilburn is the less common name, look for her from 1906 backwards.  If you find the right name, cross check with Fred Parker.  Could be a longish job but the only way to proceed.  Get the marriage certificate and you have the info to follow the trail back.

Hi To All

In answer to your question regareding the address here it is :-

two LL's have been typed on the birth cert but could be an error

12 Paull Terrace
Wassand Street
UD

As for address on the WW1 papers for Granny

3 Brompton Mount
Cross flats
Leeds

Which is where he signed up.

I have looked on 1837onlinegoing back at least 5 years as Free bmd are not giving much away, have also tried the Yorkshire BMD's and again no luck.

Thanks to all for taking the time to read this request.

Wendy

Wendy,

Do you have Grandma's christian name?

Perhaps we can find Elizabeths family on1891/1901, census.

Just a thought....

Good Hunting

Hi JeannieR

Thanks for the reply.

Unfortunately no christian name given just says grandmother, Mrs Tilburn.

I think this may be a job for Leeds Library for the electoral register or something similar.

Probably a silly question, but why doesn't Yorkshire appear as one of the possible counties for searching on in the 1901 census on Ancestry.co.uk?

I could only find 1 unmarried Elizabeth Tilburn in 1901 - she's in St Pancras and there's no mother listed with the family.

Hi All

Ok.  I have been in contact wiht the Leeds Local history library regarding the Electoral Registers - very helpful people.

asked them to check the 1926 as that was when Fred signed up giving that previous address - this is their findings.

1921 a George Tilburn living there - no wife showing up.

So they jumped to the 1926 as per request and found a George Edwin Tilburn living there with a Martha Theresa Tilburn they have taken a stab in the dark and made the assumption that this must be George's 2nd marriage.  So took a small step back and looked on the 1918 and found a George and Hannh Tilburn together.  Now going on the 1901 census there was a George and Hannah who had a son George Edwin Tilburn aged 6 born Leeds living at 98 Pemberton Tee Hunslet with older children.

So having this info I then looked on the 1891 census for the full family as there was no Elizabeth tilburn showing, there name had been transcribed as TELBURN, see below

   Telburn, Ada
3   Leeds, Yorkshire   Daughter    Hunslet    Yorkshire

Telburn, Annie
9   Boroughbridge, Yorkshire   Daughter    Hunslet    Yorkshire

Telburn, Edith M
4   Bishop Auckland, Durham   Daughter    Hunslet    Yorkshire

Telburn, Elizabeth
12   Boroughbridge, Yorkshire   Daughter    Hunslet    Yorkshire

Telburn, Fanny
14   Boroughbridge, Yorkshire   Daughter    Hunslet    Yorkshire

Telburn, Florence L
11   Boroughbridge, Yorkshire   Daughter    Hunslet    Yorkshire

Telburn, George
39   Boroughbridge, Yorkshire   Head    Hunslet    Yorkshire

Telburn, Hannah
33   Boroughbridge, Yorkshire   Wife    Hunslet    Yorkshire

Now what I can't find is Elizabeth rough age 22  born where it says she was born, tried Parker incase she married at age 18 upwards but no joy unless Frederick Parker was her second husband and it wasn't stated on her son's birth cert.  There is one who came close as Tilburn but she is still at home with her parents aged 20.

so your valuable help is till needed .

Wendy

Hi casalguidi

 ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

many thanks for finding that one - yes she is the one the cheeky beggar taking on a form of her name, it is her she is living with her now married sister Fanny Rhodes.

Do you think there could be chance that she married somewhere under Lizzie and not Elizabeth even though on her sons birth cert it is her full name that she has given?

thank you again for the finshing touches to knocking this wall down  I think I can just about put the bulldozer away now

Hi Wendy

I would assume that she would probably have given her full name for any marriage though anything is possible ..............

The 1901 confirms that she was known as Lizzie by the family - it may have been her sister (or even brother in law perhaps) that put her down on the census as Lizzie - maybe even not realising that Lizzie was short for Elizabeth.

Am so pleased that you are getting this brick wall down .................... so now it's just Mr PARKER then?

Best wishes

Casalguidi
