Hi Cooperman, I looked on the Kelly`s Directory for 1823 but Frederick Bolton, Tailor, is just listed as being in Market Place, Lechlade.

Hi Sue,

Thanks for the reply and interested in the fact that you found a Bolton in the 1823 Kelly's Directory.
My Frederick spent most of his early years in the Headington district of Oxford.
So this has now put a new twist to the story.

I wonder if the local Council would have any paperwork regarding the siting of the different shops  ???

Hi Sue,

Just to let you know that the Lechlade Parish Council passed my email on to a couple who very kindly sent me a couple of pictures.
The shop was called 'Higgs' and was located in the market square opposite the church, the shop is now the library.

 Thanks again

Hi Graham
Your photo caused a great deal of interest in Lechlade on Thursday morning. Thank you! Everyone was trying to date it and work out what all the people were gathered for. We wished that it was always so busy on Thursdays.
I have attached a couple of photos. Rather a dull morning I'm afraid and mostly cars.
Please let me know if you would like any other views.

Best wishes
Polly
PS. Having trouble uploading photos will keep trying...

Hi Polly,

Pleased to see that the picture created some interest in Lechlade and will look forward to seeing some recent pictures of the village.

I do have another one of the square taken around the WWI era which I will try and find and load it onto this site.

You could always  send the pictures to my email address which is

graham50@tiscali.co.uk

Thanks again

Graham
