I am trying to trace the birth/marriage of thomas bennett but seem to have hit a brickwall any advice would be most welcome, some one in the family once told me he married a woman by the name of ann lummox in 1795 in the halsall/ormskirk area but I havn't found him yet although I have traced son (I believe from this couple )born 1796 born in halsall going through bmd I cannot find any more children registered to this couple which in itself is strange just one child in that era.So once again any help/suggestions would be most welcome.

Hi Ray,
As these are "submitted" records it might be useful to contact the submitter to see where they found the information.

Had a look at the Bennets in the Ormskirk registers on www.lan-opc.org.uk. These are for a slightly later period, but might give an indication as to what happened to the family. Unfortunately, Halsall registers are not fully transcribed online.
There seem to be two branches - millers at Skelmersdale, and cabinet makers at Burscough. Do either of these trades appear in the family?

I've wondered about that with the occasional submitted record I've come across on the IGI. This is probably a stupid question, but how do you contact the submitter?

Hi Aulus,
Often the details are shown on the page but with no indication of when they were submitted; so it could be out of date.
I'm not sure about the ones without names/addresses on; perhaps they can be contacted via the LDS organisation.

thanks everyone for your replies.
As yet none of my family show up as millers or cabinet makers, but saying this I don't have all their job profiles.

The names of submitters are obtained from the LDS Library . Salt Lake City, Utah, USA
Years ago a small fee was payable for the information and at one point one was actually asked to contact submitters but fees did rise so it is as well to ask what is the going rate these days ???
Good Luck
