William Parker remarried Mary ?? before 1832 and had son Phillip in 1834. This would be Sherwill or Barnstaple area.
Thanks so much from Laurane who has "hit the wall" in Canada

Hi ;D
It seems that the best way to go would be to order the birth cert of Aaron parker, their youngest son.
Birth reg
AARON PARKER
Sept Q 1837, Barnstaple, Devon
vol 10 pg 36

Hi again
in 1851 Philip is working as a farm serv for Lewis Richards in Sherwill.
1851: Aaron is living as a lodger.
Sherwill:
William FRY head mar 55 tailor
Mary wife mar 61
Aaron Parker lodger 13 b Sherwill
John Parker Visitor lab b Sherwill
I wonder if aaron is related to the Fry couple?

Thanks for the info....I suspect that mother Mary (Parker) remarried William Fry abt Sep 1847 Barnstaple - William Fry married, but there is no corresponding spouse name.....time frame fits though.
Tracked Aaron Parker through to his death, then his mother Sarah remarried Samuel Fairchild.
Phillip died before 1861 but there is no death registered in Devon.

Hi Laurane
William Fry
Marriage Sept 1847, Barnstaple
Vol 10 pg 55
Mary Parker (no corresponding name either)
Marriage Sept Q 1847, Barnstaple
Vol 10 pg 35
So Aaron does not belong to William Parker and Mary??. His mum was Sarah?

Aaron Parker b. 1837 is son of William Parker and Mary......Aaron's son, Aaron Jr b 1862 is married to Sarah.....but on the 1861 census, Sarah is called Mary, so I assume she is Sarah Mary, or the census taker asked "who's the mum?" and he said Mary - who was his mother. Who knows when it gets that far back. I would like to get Aaron Sr's b/cert but I cannot afford those high prices in UK to get one. Will check online for more info on the family.
Aaron's stepsis Prudence is my ggg.GrandMother, but she was never married to the father of all her kids (Phillip Hartnoll), as his wife still lived around the corner from them and wouldn't divorce.

Hi Laurane
In 1861:
Aaron Parker b 1837, is living in sherwill with his wife ..SARAH...
She has been mistranscribed ... it says Mary but the originalk clearly shows SARAH wife mar 28,b Swimbridge.
the original 1861 census reads
South Molton
Aaron Parker head mar 24 ag lab b Sherwill
SARAH wife mar 28 b swimbridge
Mary DAU 4 b South molton
Elizabeth dau 1 b south molton
hope that clears it up for you
would you like me to recheck the other census ....

hi
Aaron Parker married Sarah Kingdon
Dec q 1858
South Molton vol 5b pg 773
Prudence Parker was b c 1811, would it be more likely that she is william parker's sister ...ie: aaron Parker b 1837, his aunt. :-\
Also I am a little confused ... you said Aaron born 1862 is married to Sarah. It's Aaron b 1837 who is married to Sarah Kingdon.
I hope I am not confusing the issue >>>LOL ::)

I meant Aaron Sr marr Sarah - and thanks for the correction on the mistranscription. No, Prudence is the daughter of William Parker who was b. 1780 and marr Alice Phillips in 1797 - they had at least 6 children, and I am thinking that they also had John Parker b. 1801 who is the Visitor on the 1841 census w/Aaron. And there may be more.......wish these guys had married and registered LOL

Hi Laurane
I've just checked in the N Devon Record Office, where they hold some transcripts of local PRs. Unfortunately Shirwell in not among them at present - however I found the following marriage in the Barnstaple PR:
William Parker, bac. of Pilton & Jane Gay Hiern sp otp 11 May 1832

Thanks, Steve......is there any mention of ages on this marr? Old William Parker had a son William b. 1815 who died before 1841 census. But there is a child Elizabeth b. 1834/5 living with "strangers" (at least I haven't placed them yet) and I suspect she might be a daughter to William Jr as she is with William's sister Prudence on a later census. Or she is a daughter to Prudence, who did not ever marry the father of all her children.
The dates fit with the birth of this Elizabeth and HIERN may be HERN which is another family name.
Any suggestions on solving this dilemma? Isn't Shirwell in the Barnstaple district? Where is Pilton in relation to Shirwell.....I don't have a good map of the area.

Hi Laurane
No further details re ages in the transcript - it would be worth checking the original in Exeter(?), but few registers give much more. Pilton is, in effect a suburb of Barnstaple, although a separate Parish, with a superior church! Shirwell is the next parish to the north, within four miles of Barnstaple.
If you like, I'll look in the Pilton registers if you like - I'm surprised Shirwell wasn't at Barnstaple - I'll check again in case it was just missing from the shelf today

Hi Laurane
Shirwell PR is on microfiche at ND Library - had a check today, Marriages 1812-1837. The only William Parker I could find was:
6 April 1816. William Parker (Servant) & Mary Ackland (Single Woman) both otp, both marked X. Witnesses Thomas Parker & Jno Griffith

That is a possibility - Prudence Parker b. 1811 was the dg of Alice Phillips and William Parker and she had siblings every two years till 1822 - then he had two more in 1834 and 1837 (Aaron Parker).
I don't have a death for Alice Phillips, but she could have died 1815 giving birth, then he remarried Mary Ackland.....but how to prove that!!. Guess I would have to find a death cert for James Parker who died in 1902 (b. 1820) to see who his mother was. They all seemed to have stayed in Shirwell which might make it easier.
Thanks for the "extra" mile......Laurane
