Kind People,
I am just embarking on researching my family history and would be greatful for help with census information to get me going.
My father's name was Dennis Juggins born in Gainsbrough. My father Dennis had a sister Catherine, a brother known as Charles Richard Padley and a brother Sam. Dennis was born in 1927.
His father's name (Granddad) was Charles and was also born in Gainsbourgh. Charles partner name was Jessie Brown.
My mother's maiden name is Shucksmith and her father was Norman Shucksmith. Norman Shucksmith was married to Eva Robinson who came from Ashby Scunthorpe.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hi Casitaraj,
Welcome to RootsChat :D
I can't see the Juggins family for now - do you know when Charles was born?
Here's what I hope to be your Norman Shucksmith on the 1901 census :) Does the age sound right?

Hi Tati,
My granddad Charles Juggins was born 1890 and died 1971. Unfortunately, my mother never talked much about her family - anyone wold think they had something to hide! I am trying to find out if Norman had sisters called Florence and Annie to help confirm - I will get back to you on that.
Hi willow2670,
Mum was born 20/12/1926.
Thanks to both of you for your help.

Well, looking at the above, I believe we have just discovered that
- either he was George Padley instead of Charles Juggins ???
- or Jessie Brown married Charles Juggins after separating from Mr Padley
Dennis was born a Padley according to Geoff's find ...

Tati :D
I think you could be correct with the second of your assumptions and that is why Padley is basically the forgotton name in the family.

Rita
It would be wise to obtain copies of birth & marriages.
This will confirm you have the right family.
You can order them on-line at
http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/
The cost of a certificate is £7.00.

James Fredrick Juggins (known as Fred) was probably born in 1927 in Gainsborough and died in 1999.
His Father was called William

Hi Rita
The latest census that can be viewed by the public
is 1901. So you wont see James Juggins family.

Hi Rita,
I am also a Shucksmith descendant.
Your grandad Norman was the son of Mary Elizabeth Shucksmith nee Clark.
Mary was born in Broughton 3 February 1860 and died 11 July 1926.
She married my 2nd G Grandad Thomas Shucksmith (b.1854 - d.1885) of Beelsby 1 November 1876 in Broughton Parish Church.
Altogether they had five children, but unfortunately, Thomas died of Pneumonia 3 months before the birth of the fifth child in 1885.
After Thomas' death, Mary had five more children, including your Grandad Norman (b. 30 Sept 1895 in Broughton),.
Some of the birth certs for these last five children give Thomas as the father even though he was dead.
She went on to marry George Henry Barker in Bottesford St. Peter's church 16 July 1903. I confess that I haven't done any research on any children for this marriage (never even thought about it until now).
Mary is buried in Brumby Cemetery, Scunthorpe with her first husband Thomas.
Norman had one son Bernard (1917 - 1977) and three daughters including your mother.
I have a lot more to tell if you are interested.

Hi
There were no Juggins in Lincolnshire in 1881 census -- They were all in Bedford/Northants/Warwickshire.
Loads'an'loads of Shucksmith all over Lincs in 1881
