:D Will someone please help me find the marriage records of William Trotter and Caroline Dill! This would be greatly appreciated. I'm also wanting to know if anyone has any other information on them or their parents?

Welcome to RootsChat!
Do you know roughly when the marriage took place?

abt.1724. because they had their first son the following year. The first son's name was James Trotter Sr. who was born 1725 in Slinford, Sussex, England. But most people say it was either England or Scotland. Since his father was born in Scotland and his mother in England. William and Caroline had 2 other kids after James named Phillip Trotter and Nancy Trotter. Please tell me anything you happen to know. ;D

Using the Family Search site I found a Pedigree Resource File showing a Trotter/Dill marriage:
1724 Slinford, Sussex
William's birth shown as 1699, Durham, Scotland and his death as Brunswick County, Virginia
The submitter's details are listed but might now be out of date.
Hope this helps,

Did you happen to see their parents or possiblely their grandparents? This is my 6th great grandfather and I'm trying to get as much information as possible.

Those were the only details shown. It might be worth contacting the submitter to see if they have more information.

Thanks. And if you know anyone that can help me or of anyone that is looking for Trotter's then please let me know or tell them to contact me. ;)

I'd suggest that you add the surnames you are researching to your profile and also to the Surname Interests Table. Have you checked with the GOONS (Guild of One Name Studies) to see if anyone else is researching?

I don't know whether I should say this :-\ but I looked on the Sussex Marriage Index to see whether there were any more details for you and the marriage is not on the index! :(

Oh dear. The Sussex Marriage Index is generally very reliable so it does look as if the information put on the IGI is wrong - won't be the first time! If you live near an LDS centre (listed on familysearch) then you can order the film of Slinfold parish and search it yourself then you will know. Where have you found the information you already have?

Mainly family books and records. But a few things came from FamilySearch.com ::)

Hi
I assumed from your post that you were not living in the UK but having looked at your profile I see that you are. At least that is how it appears. That being the case you should not find it too hard to get to an LDS Family History centre. They are listed on familysearch. You can then order films of parish records as I suggested before.
I think you may have realised by now that putting on several duplicate threads is counter productive as none of us want to duplicate work that has already been done. You have had several sensible suggestions put forward and with luck one of them might lead you to further information.
Half the fun of this hobby is in the hunt and searching parish registers is very rewarding.

This is SO true, but if there is a contact name, it can't hurt to contact them. They might have clues for further research, or gotten farther in their research and have corrections not yet added to the records.

I agree Kath, but the whole thing does sound as if it is not based on proven fact so I would like to know if there is such a marriage in Slinfold or if it is total guesswork. I don't think that muddinmon is fully aware of the way forward in "safety" here.
