Seeking any info on the following family.
BENJAMIN ETHELL was born 06 May 1881 in York,Yorks, and died 17 December 1950 in Sydney,NSW,Australia. He married MARGARET ANN SMITH 27 January 1901 in St Andrew,Great Grimsby,Lincs., daughter of JOHN SMITH and JESSIE ?. She was born Abt. 1883.

Hi Trevor,
When John William enlisted for ww2, he was living in Rockhampton.
A copy of his record will give you particular addresses.
You may also see if there were children.
When his wife FRANCES died [according to Ryerson index] she was living in Ramsgate, NSW.
She appears to have been cremated at Eastern Suburbs Memorial Park, Sydney NSW. She was 69.
Strangely her name is entered as Frances MICHAEL Rosa ETHELL.!!
Can't see him on the index though.
Frances Colin is listed as Colin Frances ETHELL. cremated in WA

Last abode Hamilton Hills. aged 74. Cremated "Ashes taken by the Administrator from Fremantle" There are other Ethells there too.

emily ethell was my grandmother,she married an atkinson and had one son and a daughter,both deceased

sorry to have been so long in answering you, but have been away. I have attached the origin of where the Ethell name of our ancestors came from so you can see we didn't come from ethellred.
Thomas Ithill (ETHELL) 1759 - 1842
The Foundling
Thomas Ithill (Ethell), who was my 4x Great Grandfather, was born as William Smith, on the 3rd August 1759 at Prees,Shropshire, the illegitimate son of Ann Smith, the father being Francis Reynolds, a married man.
Between 1756 and 1760, The Foundling Hospital, London, and other similar places in England were obliged to accept all children offered to it and many Parishes throughout England saw this as a way of disposing of illegitimate children who were a charge on the parish.
Thomas Ithill (William Smith) was one of these children who were placed in the Foundling Hospital and given a new name. From the Foundling Hospital Register, on the 4th September 1759 a male child about one month old requiring a wet nurse was admitted being given number 13853, the child was born in Prees Parish,Shropshire, 3rd August 1759, No 13853 named Thomas Ithill.
After nine years at the Foundling Hospital, Thomas was sent to Ackworth Hospital,near Pontefract,Yorkshire. Two years later on the 9th June 1768 he was apprenticed to John Frear of Norton,near Malton,Yorkshire,a Farmer, to be employed in Husbandry.
Thomas Ithill (Ethell) married Deborah Rose in Scampston Chapel,near Rillington,Yorkshire, on the 12th February 1782, they had three children :-

Richard. born 1784
Hannah. born 1790.
When Thomas died at the age of 83 years he had 24 grandchildren.

Arther Ethell my grandad was a fisherman and sailed as chief engineer
all his sons went the same way all going to sea and I did the same till 1985

I am sorry to say but I see all the wrong originality of the Ethell family name origin this is in fact the true origin of the Ethell blooodline, Ethelred II (c. 968 – April 23 1016) was also known as Ethelred the Unready. He was King of England twice. The first time was from 978 to 1013, and the second time was 1014 to 1016. He was the son of Edgar, and Aelfthryth. For most of his reign he had to fight off Viking invaders.
The word unready in his name means "badly advised". When he asked for ideas about how to do things he was told the wrong thing. As he was only ten, he did not know what was the best way of doing things.
I hope this helps you all to know the true origin of our family name, I am a lord of the Scottish highlands and can assure you my knowledge on our family history is accurate.

Does that mean an earlier post i wrote re, thinking our family name Ethell ] originally came from Ethelred is correct.
That means we would be related.

The Ethell Family in the original question is not related to Ethelred in any form. The Ethell in question and descendents are all from the FOUNDLING from Lees in Shropshire. So don't get confused.
