Hi.
I have a birth and death in December qtr 1875 Plymouth District for a John Thomas Gray.
I think he could be 'one of mine'.
His Dad was John Thomas Gray, a Royal Marine, who had sixteen children by two wives and I'm wondering whether this baby could be number seventeen.
Is there anybody who could help with any info like the baptism or death details that could like it to John Thomas and Betsy Ann?
The family were living in St.Pauls Street.
Thanks

Hi Jan
The only sure way is the birth cert and you would need to buy a copy to get the parents names. If you order direct from the registrars office and put a condition on your application that you only want it if his father was John Thomas, they will not charge you if it is the wrong one. If, however, you follow the same process with an online application, the GRO will charge a search fee which is in the region of £4

Hi Jan,
Trying to be helpful but I may come across as being pedantic.
The parish church for East Stonehouse would be St George, not St Paul as in the title of this thread.
Against all odds, considering the battering Plymouth took in WW2, St Pauls Street is still standing in Plymouth.
Very close to the Marines Barracks!
Sorry I can't offer any more help :(

Thanks for the replies.
The reason I asked for St.Paul's was that the entries in the family bible all mention St.Pauls church, so it looks as if the family used it.
Can anybody tell me what St.Paul's Street looks like now?
From the Census returns, it sounded as if it were made up of tiny homes.
Thanks

Hi jan
Just a thought ...have you trace John Thomas Gray (snr), the Royal Marine through the censuses ? I was thinking that seeing as he had married two women that he may have already named one of his children after himself and that maybe the other that you have seen is not his .... i hope I am making sense .....
shout if you need census info ...
