Title: Shooting in 1905
Post by: JohnW1972 on Friday 03 August 07 17:22 BST (UK)
HI, my great grandfather who was Italian living in Birmingham, shot and killed someone in self defense at Aston [bham] in 1905, he served 3 months in Birmingham's Winson Green Prison and was then deported, i have searched through local papers for the whole of 1905 at B,ham library, looked at various websites, but to no avail, there is no one alive from that side of the family to ask what happened, his name was Giovanni Farina, any help or advice would be much appreciated, if you have seen this question on the net before, it is because i have posted it a lot of times, hoping for the one link to finding the answer.
ps i do not know the name of the person who was killed. Thanks.

How sure are you that it was 1905?

You could try the Birmingham City Archives, it appears they have some court records, they should be able to advise you on the best method - i.e. it might be best to check calendars of prisoners first, then look for newspaper records and court records once you have dates.  They may have or should be able to tell you where/if prison records for Winson Green were kept.

Hi there
Have a look at www.findmypast.com  (http://www.findmypast.com) they have 27 FARINAs leaving the UK (1900-1910) for parts foreign. Might be worth a look!
There is also a police museum in the Birmingham city area, I don't have the details to hand but a 'google' should fix that ::)
Good luck
